My wife is of Scottish descent. Her ancestors came over on the Hector to Pictou, and that woman can squeeze a nickel until the beaver screams.

your fact about Canucks of Scots descent doesn't suprise me.Also I'm amazed as Victoria Day is a public holiday in Edinburgh on the same date in May as it is in Canada.
Matrmat-a question to which Ido not know thwe answer-did the Canadian Regiment De LaChaudiere take part in the D-Day landings or was it Dieppe August 1942 that Ir ecall their name from? nd were they mainly Quebecois?

Stuff.

Le Régiment de la Chaudière landed on Juno Beach on D-Day, Les Fusiliers Mont-Royal landed at Dieppe, both were primarily Canadien units.

Two of the most famous Canadien Reg'ts in the Canadian Army are the "VanDoos" i.e. the Royal 22e Régiment of Montreal and Les Voltigeurs de Canada/Québec. The latter was raised by Col. Charles-Michel d'Irumberry de Salaberry, a British Army Vet. who fought against Napoleon, to defend Lower Canada against the US in the War of 1812. They defeated a larger US force moving on Montreal from the south at the Battle of the Chateauguay.

My wife is of Scottish decent on both sides. Her Great Grandmother was from Edinburgh, served as a nurse in WWI, brothers buried in Flanders Fields, she emigrated to Canada after the war. My wife's Grandfather landed on Juno Beach with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders, served on a 25 Pdr. right through into Germany.

Incidentally, that “Frugal” gene must skip a generation, her mother has it, unfortunately she doesn’t.

Sper Wirey you really must abandon this myth about Scots being mean-Aberdeen, Scotland per capita contributes more to charitable causes than any other like sized town in the UK does.

I learned this from two ladies from Nova Scotia whom Iwas squiring in 1963 and Iwas photographed with them standing on Nova Scotian territory in Edinburgh Castle back then.

You old dog. I bet you squired them alright. ;)

I meant it in jest. My wife is unusually, um, frugal, but it's a good quality. When I'm 65 and my diet contains little cat food, I'll have her to thank.

Honour to the ladies in question does not permit me to comment on ''squiring'' Ally suffice to say I've always had a soft spot for Canadian women since then.
