My Dad was flying a C-47 towing gliders, and later dropping supply canisters. He never had para drop duty though.

My Dad's cousin, Leo was a tank driver with Patton's Third, but of course they didn't land until post D-Day. My paternal uncle was with a Sgt. with the 291st Combat Engineers, but I believe they were delayed in landing on the beaches of Normandy as well.

My three maternal uncles were all serving in the Navy/USMC, but stationed in the PTO not the ETO.

My uncle was an officer in an infantry battalion that was supposed to land on Omaha on D-Day. Because of the difficulties on the beach, their landing was delayed until the next morning. My father-in-law was medic, ad he landed on Utah.

My uncle Stan ( british army) went ashore on sword beach. He was a tanker and was killed in Aug 1945 in Holland.
