EXCELLENT BRITISH TV PROGRAMME ON HUNT FOR GREAT ESCAPE

British Channel 4 had an excellent documentary on the hunt by the allies to capture and punish the Nazii Gestapo men responsible for killing the 50 POWS FROM STALAG LUFT 111 AT SAGAN I N SILESIA.in 1944. The guy who shot BIG X Roger Bushell was caught and hung in 1948 and the rat who killed the Australian escaper CATTENACH WAS ALSO CAUGHT and executed but during his interrogation he defiantly said he was proud to rid the Reich of sub humans like the escapers-I wonder if he was as proud when he was dropped through the gallows trap door. Most of those responsible were caught and executed ib 1948 but unfortnately one of the main Gestapo butchers wasn't caught until 1954 tried by a German court who released him after serving only two years-which iTHINK WAS A DISGRACE. AGAIN, THE FAMOUS SCENE in the 1963 movie ''THE GREAT ESCAPE'' when a Gestapo man said ''Good luck!'' and an escapeee responded fatally ''Thanks' very much'' was not as depicted in the movie. The incident took place in the corridor of a German night train and the guy who said ''Thanks very much' wasn;t with Roger Bushell (Richard Attenborough) but with the Australian Cattenach-and his German name'' Scheindaeur'' didn't save him from sharing Cattenach's fate.. Unfortunately some of the Gestapo murdrers were caught by the Soviets who nevertheles did not respond to British requests to hand them over.

"Unfortunately some of the Gestapo murdrers were caught by the Soviets who nevertheles did not respond to British requests to hand them over. " Did they survive? I would think that there weren't many Gestapo prisoners of the Soviets who fared very well. They may not have gotten the public trial and execution they richly deserved, but in the end was their fate any better under the Soviets?
