Which aircraft carrier had two athwartships catapults on her hangar deck? It can't be Japanese, because no Japanese carrier had operational catapults.

In WW2, what was the first US naval surface engagement fought since the Spanish-American War. it was also the first defeat inflicted on a Japanese surface force.

River gunboat WAKE (PR-3), surrenders to Japanese at Shanghai after attempt to scuttle fails. [WAKE is the only United States ship to surrender during the war.]
