St. Fury has to be the best super hero. He doesn't have super strength or super speed but he really kicks some nazi tail.

I used to read both Sgt Fury and Sgt Rock. I thought that Fury and his gang were sort of a bunch of knuckleheads. They used to spend as much time hurling insults at each other as they did hurling hand grenades at the Nazis. I also seem to remember their OIC always yelling at Fury with a cigar in his mouth.

I think that the officer was...

...Captain "Happy" Sam Sawyer who was always yelling at Fury. Fury always reminded me of a superhero in fatigues since he always had some kind of pithy comments when offing bad guys.

Oh yeah I agree Sgt. Rock was a hard guy to figure out. The only time I remember old Rock being interested in women was when in a two-parter story he was stranded on a raft with a Jap Sergeant and then a boat comes along and Rock and the Jap fight each other to the death (guess who wins?) It turned out to be an abandoned PT boat, which then gets strafed by a zero. Rock ends up in the water and is about to get eaten by Jaws when a hospital ship comes along and plucks him out. On board the ship they examine him and try to get him to wear a Johnny. He says "negative" so they give him some khakis. Well anyway there is a good-looking nurse who fills out a blouse quite amply (for a cartoon girl anyway). She tells old Rock "Do you have any objection to food Sergeant"? and he says "Not if you're going to be doing the feeding Lieutenant" The way they drew Rock saying it gave the reader the impression that the old Easy Co. Sgt. wanted more than just some hospital ship chow if you know what I mean and I think you do!

Sgt. Fury was okay, but I preferred Sgt. Rock and Easy Co. by a long shot! Better art, better stories. Remember some of the other heroes who were sometimes featured in the Sgt. Rock comics. There was one about a young lieutenant who commanded a light Stuart tank, named after Confederate Gen. J.E.B. Stuart who just happened to be an ancestor of the lieutnant's and would show up in battle in ghostly form on horseback with a sabre and help the lieutenant save the day. I also seem to remember an American Indian soldier serving the the Pacific theater, wore a feather in his helmet and was always communing with Sitting Bull or Geronimo or Crazy Horse or some old chief before or after battles.
