With the invention and perfection of the tank. Wars have been turned just by the awe of the tank. It is an intimidating weapon and one in which the crew feels safe when fighting against a common enemy. The only other field weapons that can cause considerable damage to tanks are other tanks and good artillery fire.
The tank was a major factor in WW2 used in the 'Blitzkrieg' by the Nazis in their first campaigns of the war. How vital was the tank in the annexatations of all those countries that led up to WW2? Yes, their aircraft did play a vital role in the air but the tanks were unstoppable on the ground regardless.
Yes, machine guns are awesome weapons and can fire rapidly but they are no match for a tank. A-bombs cause major destruction but should be used as an absolute last measure in warfare. So, in conclusion, the tank is my choice.
