Message Boards Announcement
Dear History members:

In February, 2010, History boards will begin the process of upgrading our community message board software. We are moving to a new community software, KickApps, that will provide greater functionality and ease of use. This transition will take place during the last part of February; the last day that the current boards will be available to you will be Feb. 28, 2010.

We realize that many of you have posted great content over the years and might want to save your posts. Please take this time to go back through the boards and save what you want to keep on your own computer. These boards will no longer be accessible after February 28, 2010.

If you would like to ask a question about the new boards, click here: http://boards.history.com/forum/Message-Boards-User/108

There will be more details to come as we roll out the new community software. Thank you for your continued patronage. We'll see you on the new, improved boards!

Haitian Defeat of Napoleon's Forces Led to French Selling Louisiana Terr.

May 8, 2006 8:21 PM
The Battle that lead to significant changes in the way the modern world headed (and the lost of 700,000 Square miles of Black Indigenous Waschitaw Nation lands ) was paradoxically the defeat of Napoleon's troops in Haiti by Toussaint L'Overture, Henri Christophe, Dessalines and Petion ( see http://community.webtv.net/nubianem2 )

The Haitians defeated the French in the Haitian Revolutionary wars against French occupation and slavery in Haiti. When the Spanish and British invaded Haiti, they too were defeated.

The Haitian Revolution led to the support for the Bolivarian Revolution in Latin America and the freeing of Latin America from Spanish colonialism and the abolition of slavery of Blacks in the Spanish nations of Latin America.

Haiti's revolutionary leader Toussaint L'Overture also wanted to spread revolution in Africa to stop the slave trade but the 25 million dollars in gold that was to be used for that purpose was stolen by a ship's captain who used some of that money to open a college in Philadelphia (which until recently did not accept Blacks - see "A History of Racism and Terrorism, Rebellion and Overcoming," Xlibris.com ).

BLACK INDIGENOUS WASCHITAW NATION'S LANDS ANNEXED DUE TO 'LOUISIANA PURCHASE'

The greatest benificiary to the defeat of the French slaveholders and the French nation in Haiti was the U.S. After the French were defeated in Haiti, they could not use Haiti as a base to supply the keeping of an empire in the Continental U.S. Hence, they sold the land to the US at three cents an acre.

However, the French and Spanish were aware that THERE WAS AN INDIGENOUS, ABORIGINAL BLACK NATION WHO OWNED THAT LAND. That indigenous nation is called the Waschitaw Nation and they still exist but their lands have been reduced to only 65,000 square acres, which they won in 1991 after a lengthy court fight ( see 'Waschitaw Nation Holds Anual Convention' ( Ancientamerican.com Ancient American Magazine )

Unknown to many people who are descendents of recent people from Europe and elsewhere (after the 1700's), there were significant Black/Negroid nations in the US particularly California (yes, before the Spanish invaders), the Mississippi Valley and the Eastern US. Many like the Black Californians of California ( see the picture http://community.webtv.net/pabarton ), the Jamassee of Georgia and the Guale of Georgia lost their lands and were enslaved. In fact, these African-Americans were actually the first Black slaves in the United States, WHILE THE AMERICAN INDIANS CAPTURED WERE ENSLAVED AND SENT TO NIGERIA AND PARTS OF THE BRITISH TERRITORIES IN LATIN AMERICA (see, A History of the African-Olmecs, at AuthorHouse.com ).

If the Haitians had not defeated Napoleon, the French would still have one third of the US, Latin America would still be under Spanish colonialism, the Spanish would still be a global superpower and the Haitians and Africans would be under a slavery and colonialism for a longer time.

Decent overview, but I believe your final thesis that France would own 1/3 of the USA today if the Haitians hadn't thrown the french out. After Napaolean's army was defeated at Waterloo, the U.S. could have taking the land, and it wouldn't have even cost 3 cents an acre. Now if Napolean had came out on top I think you'd be right, but the fact that France sold the land to the U.S. for so cheap shows the vunurable position that Napolean was in and not just in the North American continent.
