Gee isn?t freedom of the press one of the freedoms that hundreds of thousands of Americans have fought and died for in all these wars over the past couple of hundred years?

Seems like kind of a silly question?? Either my morning coffee hasn't kicked in or I'm missing some subtle nuances here!! If the National press, or American at least, DIDN'T show it the world would still know sooner or later. Worse yet the Iraqi's probably already knew! Clandestine information systems are huge in countries like that. Whichever soldiers allowed that stuff to happen should be courtmarshalled. AND I hope they are reminded how their actions are partly responsible for any further American deaths in that area. There are times, when all a Gentleman has is his honor...

I do agree with Freedom of the Press, but it also has to use discretion when these come up. Yes, the soldiers should be punished, but when you're in a war you need all the public support you can get. The mainstream media is so anti-Bush they probably couldn't wait to get their hands on this. If Clinton was President it would've been pushed aside by now (then again we wouldn't even be there & Sadaam would still be in power) just like his missing the chances to get Bin Laden & the stupid Serbia conflict. How come the Intl community didn't get out raged when the Iraquis mutilated those 4 Americans - I see that was "pushed aside".

The word is Court Martial. Please do not pre-judge. This ugly episode needs to be investigated and due process of law will decide what needs to be done.

I think discretion should have been considered by those responsible. This comes under the category, "What were they thinking?". These are prisoners, not convicted criminals. We should not even be treating convicted criminals this way. The nerve of the UN kicking us off the human rights committee.

<<We should not even be treating convicted criminals this way.>> Question for ya! Had by some miracle the 19 members of the Sept 11th Air Show survived and been apprehended would you have objected to them being treated in this manner?

No, I wouldn't have subjected them to that type of treatment - I would've shot each & every one of them. Cold-blooded murderers such as them deserve nothing but death. Then ship the bodies back to Osama saying "You're next"

"Whichever soldiers allowed that stuff to happen should be courtmarshalled. AND I hope they are reminded how their actions are partly responsible for any further American deaths in that area." That is a good point and likewise the media needs to be reminded that their actions are partly responsible for any further American deaths. Censorship did you say? Laws are usually made for a reason. Freedom of expression does not include that which defeats or jeapordizes our right to be free. When the media is asked not to divulge an item at this particular time due to national security it should be heeded or laws like the patriot act will be enforced. Terrorists use demoralizarion against their enemies and it looks like some of our media is doing the same.

How can someone be so cold?... Have you listened to yourself? I mean most of the prisoners are not even terrorists, just innocent civilians caught in the wrong place. No one... and I mean NO one should ever be put in a situation like that... And I belive if we never did that, that American would still be alive...And we should ship the bodies back to Osama? Did you notice ... umm we don't know where in the world he is...so how are we going to send the bodies back? Besides that would spark more tension and more innocent lives would be taken...

I absolutely agree with you! What were these people thinking... no one should be subjected to this kind of treatment no matter what they are 'accused' of doing...

Our country is supposed to be(or should be) in a state of war against terrorists and their supporters.. Therefore " censorship" must prevail. Not only that, but far too much of the media has acted in a very irresponsible manner. They report only on the negative and sensationalism.. Yes, I know it is a business, and that ratings are important; but there is also a responsibility to ones own country, and NOT just the Almighty Dollar !

"Censorship prevails"? Then the terrorists have won.
