Name most life changing innovation in 1900`s.

I realize the automobile and trains were important but I think electrical power was most life changing.

My grandfather in rural Eastland County,Texas did get electrical power to his farm until 1956.It had far reaching effects on his daily life.

For one thing he no longer had to spend an hour twice daily drawing water from the well for household and livestock use.He now had a electric pump that provided that and with that came indoor plumbing. The outdoor privy was made obsolete.

Instead of only a battery powered radio,he got a regular radio, and a hi-fi record player, and a television set.

In the kitchen he had propane fueled cooking range since the mid `40`s but suddenly now had a refrigerator and a chest type food freezer.

Household and barn lighting was vastly improved with elecrtic lights. The kerosene lanterns and lamps took on secondary importance only kept for emercency use.

In the barn and shop the new electrical power made possible air compressors, power tools, arc welders and so many other necessary uses.

So anyone have a candidate for the most life changing innovation of the 1900`s ?

Oops I read it as the 1990's not the 1900's.

The rise of personal transportation and the television I think.

I would have to go with antibiotics, starting with salvarsan, Germany 1910, the sulfa drugs of the 30's, penicillin from the 40's and... With out these wonders, life as we know it, and mine for sure, would not exist. Modern refrigeration is another thing we shouldn't over look. Of course I'm leaving out the legacy weapon of the 20th century; thermonuclear reaction.
