Death Masks

Oct 26, 2009 11:08 PM
I thought tonight's show Death Masks was interesting, up until the point were Dr. Fishman declares that Abraham Lincoln had a "wasting" disease that would have killed him if Booth had not got to him first and that "Lincoln was trying to hide evidence of a disease."

Oh come on! Once again History Channel provides misinformation. When Lincoln was ten years old he was badly injured when a horse kicked him in the face. Lincoln stated in 1860 that he was "killed" for a time--he was not unconsciousness for a couple of days. After the accident Lincoln's face grew uneven, the injured side of his face stopped growing at the same rate as the uninjured side. That is what Lincoln was trying to hide in photographs not some secret disease.

Is it to much to ask that the so called experts hired by the History Channel actual know what they are talking about. I would expect that Dr. Fishman would examine the complete medical history of his patients before making a diagnosis. Obviously he did not review Lincoln's medical history. Then again, why should I expect well researched history from the History Channel?

Well said! I was very disappointed in the shoddy job they did on the Lincoln segment. It seemed that they were more interesting in making up history for the purpose of selling the show which undermines the credibility of the show and of the History Channel.

Thanks for your comments, I realized that I made a typo: Lincoln was unconscious for a few days after his accident. That's what I get for not spell checking!

The fact of the matter is that cable television shows are produced quickly, often times poorly, and on the cheap... I still love most of the programming though. Anyway, if you agree you should check out The Videomakers comedy web series. It is a spoof about the nonfiction TV production world and some of the more ridiculous shows out there... for instance... Pets of the Third Reich!
