Hello at History.com,, I would love to see a show done on the Baker Hotel located in Mineral Wells, Texas, about 45 minutes to an hour West of Fort Worth, Texas. It has been said Marilyn Monroe stayed there for a time and J.F.K. had been seen going into a back door to visit her. (I hope I got that info right.) Anyway, there have been some horrible rumors going around that there are plans to destroy this building. It is the center of Mineral Wells and holds much history in it. I've heard of hidden passages in the walls as wells as underground areas. I do not know much about the place, but I would love to hear more about it. Also it is said that the building is haunted by Mr. Baker's ghost. Please, if there is someone interested in doing a show on the Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells, Texas, I think it would be great. It is a beautiful building. I feel more people need to learn about it, and get the building protected from young people who break in and steal from and destroy this huge part of Mineral Wells' history. Thank you for taking time to read my post, I will be praying to hear about the Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells on the History channel. Charce

I agree with this completely The Baker Hotel holds a lot of history in those walls that need to be told. It might not mean much to people who don't know anything about the Baker Hotel, but it is a huge part of our history here. It's ashamed that its nothing but another abandoned land mark that they wanna do away with. There's so much to tell about the past of this hotel I'm sure many viewers will appreciate the acknowledgment of this historical site.

The Baker is a beautiful landmark that can be seen from many miles in various directions from Mineral Wells. There is a wonderful old gentleman who worked there in it's heyday and has the most amazing scrapbook in which he has chronicled events and happenings at the Baker includer dance and show bills listing famous Hollywood celebreties who visited Mineral Wells in the early 30's and 40's. His stories about the place are a delight to hear. One of the most fascinating stories about Mineral Wells and the Baker is that the idea of the "Hollywood" sign that is recognized the world over began as idea seen in Mineral Wells by a Hollywood producer. Mineral Well's own sign that says "Welcome" is still visable on the hillside overlooking the town. The Baker is an amazing place with so much history that extends far and wide. I still remember walking through the beautiful lobby as a teenager passing through Mineral Wells on vacation. It was a site to behold even then. A story about the building as well as the famous "Crazy Water" found there would interest any visitor passing through the town who has wondered why such a beautiful building is being allowed to rot away in decade. Such a shame.

I looked into, really cool old place. I couldn't find a price for it though, not that I could afford it, but I was interested in how much it was for sale for. Every site I checked out says it's for sale, but none mention how much, anyone know? Just curious!!

I grew up in Mineral Wells, and have always had a fascination with this building. I remember riding the Greyhound bus into town, and looking up as we passed the building wondering what it was all about. Since I was born in 1970, I have never seen it in operation. I was fortunate to tour the building in the 80's when all of the original furniture was still in place. It was amazing, to see history stuck in time. Someone had tried to re-develop the property during the 80's, and auctioned off every piece of furniture including bathroom fixtures, old telephone booths, etc. It was a shame because nothing ever happened after that. The city is currently working on a plan to attract developers, and turn the old hotel into a mixed bag of business, retirment apartments, condo's, shops, etc. They have developed a tax benefit which moves tax dollars into the project, making it cheaper for a developer. However, it is still an expensive project. The current sale price is fixed around $2.2Million, and the city projects the price to restore the building is over $50 Million. You can learn more about the project by going to www.mineralwellsindex.com, and search for the baker hotel. It's an amazing structure. The last time I was in the building was just before the city condemned it because tiles started falling off the roof and injuring pedestrians. I saw the presidential suite on the top floor with the hidden liquor cabinet from the proabition days. No more tours are allowed at this time due to it's condition, but there are many pictures on the intranet from visitors over the recent years. I hope it can be saved, but it's in really bad condition at this point.

I think that the Baker Hotel needs to be restored and opened up to the public as a museum. That would create some more job openings in this time of life and it would create a world of history at our fingertips for those that come after us for generations to come. I see that I am not the only one to have an interest in what happened behind those walls. I would love to start getting donations to make this possible. We need to come together and stop the tearing down of this wonderful piece of history. My grandfather was a bellhop in the Baker and I wish I could show my kids the whole hotel and share with them the knowledge of the Baker. I would love to have my kids show their kids and pass down the knowledge of history through our generation. There were only two and the one in Dallas was torn down, let's not have that happen to this one!

It's a neat old, historic place, and folks from all over the nation have visited this grand hotel. A show should be done.

Yes, a show might stimulate interest to restore the hotel. Although I like the idea of turning it into a museum, I prefer that it be restored as a hotel because I would love to stay there. My parents stayed there many years ago right after they were married and saw the Dorsey Brothers in the nightclub. So much history and rumour is that Bonnie and Clyde stayed here too..incognito! -- Be thankful we're not getting all the government we're paying for. --- Will Rogers Shelly, Hotels Lake Tahoe
