Maybe not JERRY SPRINGER but it sure is starting to look like a THOM BEERS production- drillbit !!!

I see by the latest promos that they have introduced the elements of stress, conflict and competition all to add more drama- look for the Sandhogs to start throwing their hard hats and tools- it's coming !!!

Ltrazordaddio- you are always right on the money with your posts!

Drama and ratings are what they are after and not the telling of the great story of the sandhogs and their hard work and accomplishments!! Too bad.....

P.S. How much longer do we have to wait to find out if they ever found the "fingers"?(poor Guy)....they are now going into episode 4 (it happened in episode 1)!! A bit much, wouldn't you say. Or did it really happen? Their creditibility is questionable. Thom Beers where are you?

drillbit- Danke ! I didn't know about the man losing his fingers - it is a dangerous job and most likely did happen.

But for the sake of drama you can bet the producers will milk it into Season 2.

Yes he did lose part of his fingers. But he went to hospital get stitched up and is back at work. This happens all the time one small move or slip and someone could get hurt. These man face this every day. It's no joke working in tunnels. Many people could not work under the conditions these men do.They don"t complain and or stay out on workman's comp, they get back to work. Be glad to answer any questions you have.Just post them.

I think this show is amazing, and I'm kind of horrified that all you "insiders" beat it to death. Don't you know how this show makes you look totally heroic to the rest of the world? As someone who will only get to your world via my TV, I think I speak for the rest of America in saying this: your work is great, your brotherhood is impressive, your show is off the charts. I feel honored to be a (vicarious) part of your world through this series. Thanks for keeping the country working and strong.

And thanks, History, for this amazing show. It's probably the best of it's kind.

Someone on another sandhog thread said guys were fired because of the show. Is this true? Of course they have to add conflict and drama; that's what they think keeps people coming back each week.

Where is he working? He did not return to the Croton job.

Wishing him all the best in his recovery - he is one tough and brave Sandhog!

First of all.....there are certain posters here on these message boards who are of the opinion that these types of shows are NOT history and don't belong on this TV channel. How much validity that you give to this opinion is up to you the viewer. However, keep in mind that any comments that you read may be coming from this point of view.

I haven't seen the thread you are referring to so I can't comment on it except to say that it isn't that easy to "fire" a union employee without just cause. And besides the number of people who can or even want to be Sandhogs is not unlimited. Just because of the nature of the work this is so.

Another thing to remember is that the producer of this show was a Sandhog himself. This is not the same person who did these other shows on History so if you've been watching any of them...please give "Sandhogs" a fair chance .
As for adding drama....it all depends on what drama is to YOU.
What may be dramatic to me may not be dramatic to you.

And if you believe that there are not any of these "friendly" competitions or rivalries on the job or striving to reach some milestone or goal which someone might believe to be impossible or crazy, then you must not believe competition is the name of the game.

I don't know where you live, but doesn't this make you stop and wonder what's going on under your feet...especially if you live in or near a large city?
I'll look for the post to which you are referring. I may comment later.

Drillbit....
Do you think these little competitions and "friendly" rivalries don't really exist in the real world?
Well, they do. Even in past history that everyone can agree is really history timewise. One that immediately comes to mind is the building of the"Transcontinental" Railroad. The two railroads, the Central Pacific and the Union Pacific were competing against each other to see who would get to the meeting point first and the track gangs competed against the goal of who would lay the most track in a day (10 miles) which is precisely the same thing as Anthony was doing. Now did he take chances that weren't wise...Probably...but so did the track layers.
There is plenty of risk built in whether it is played up or not....perhaps the disagreement is about how much attention it should be given..but to act like competition doesn't exist is to deny the fact that men are competitive and goal-oriented by nature.

Just what IS your definition of drama? Isn't that a subjective opinion based on your own experience. Because what is dramatic to me may not be dramatic to you or anybody else.

Just what is your goal here anyway?
If it is to get this type of show off the History network and from the person's posts you support it looks like it is . It hasn't worked so far. You will just have to wait until enough people get tired of this type of program and stop watching...just like they did Jerry Springer. They oversaturated the market with that type of program until there were so many of them and their content was so controversial that people eventually got tired and stopped watching.
I can't understand why you have such an intense dislike for Thom Beers.
I'm beginning to think that some of the posters on these message boards are "moles" for the History network to keep the talk going and people watching. Because most people's reaction to a show they didn't like is they don't watch again. But you must be watching because if you weren't you'd have nothing to talk about.

One thing I have noticed about all of these programs is that most people who post here are either those who are insiders or haters of that particular industry....Loggers and tree huggers.....truck drivers and people who have dealings with them day-to-day., etc.

Don't you look at the "minisites" videos on the "Sandhogs" "Ax Men" "Ice Road Truckers" Home Pages for the background info you want to know. Some are quite good.

I've wasted far too much time on this post because what I have said won't change much in your point of view.
Go look for the bogeyman (or should I say Thom Beers ) behind or under every episode of Sandhogs...I'm sure you guys will find him even if he is not there.

What women? Not as Sandhogs you didn't!!! People kill me when they say "men and women" did this or that when they know full well in the day those things were done women were nowhere near those kinds of jobs.
You may have seen some female reporters or Lesley Stahl on 60 Minutes or you may be referring to the "Sandhog Project" that was done by a lady named Gina LeVay. You may have seen NYC or MTA people.

I challenge you to name at least one female "Sandhog" working any of these locations.

;) He would have never became the shifter in the first place. Morgan had many capable people in Boston to choose from, who would have never thought of treating people the way Anthony tried to do. It's a wonder the poor kids hardhat even fit on his head after Morgan told him the news! Then, Anthony immediately forgot everything his momma taught him about manners and respect, which is pretty amazing, cause it seems like it should have been pretty fresh in his memory considering he is what? 10?

Hey Sonrisa- If it's not Drama, what is it ??? Drama makes the world go round- without drama SANDHOGS, IRT, AX MEN and any other Hollywood production would be like watching old 8mm home movies.

"Tensions build- things are going to blow"- drama makes the show entertaining and interesting to the viewer.

BTW- JERRY SPRINGER just started it's 18th season- so people must still be watching- probably more people watch Springer than they do NON-HISTORY.
