Hi Apparition- I heard somebody mention it a few months back in one of these forums. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's another Thom Beers Real Life Drama, highly edited, contest added soap operas, that will tell us as much about the "history" of Sandhogs, as IRT tells us the "history" of the Ice Road. Just another hour I won't be tuned to HISTORY.

I am the one who brought up the subject of Sandhogs before. I hope you're wrong. but then knowing this guy's track record doesn't bode well for this one either. Go to this website to find the info that will be helpful in deciphering what is real and what isn't. Also any website having to do with Water Tunnel # 3 is a good source. http://www.sandhogproject.com/sandhogs/index.html This occupation IS very dangerous. There is documented proof. This is a mining operation and all the safety hazards connected with it. There is the "bends" and a disease from the dust. Most of the sandhogs are fathers and sons, second and third generation sandhogs.

You guessed right. I'm not sure if New Yorkers will bother to watch because none of my co-workers who are mostly men watch any of the others. There aren't many people who even are aware of what goes on right underfoot let alone anything about Sandhogs. This is what he (Thom Beers) counts on. Ignorance of the FACTS. All I can say is he;d better watch it. These guys are ALL Union, Local 147. I WILL BE WATCHING> What used to be your favorite subjects on HC? History's Mysteries and Investigating History was mine. Have a good day!

I hope he's been smart enough to hire a consultant for this because he's way over his head on this one, It is an occupation that not many are familiar with. I'm going to watch even if for no other reason than to get something for further research.

Thom Beers is like a songwriter that writes the same old tune with the same old words and only changes the title. You can bet there will be the element of danger-"One wrong move and you're dead" and an added contest of course. I think NON-HISTORY was hoping to capture the NYC and NorthEast area with this latest incarnation. You know Sonrisa, it's been so long since THC actually had "history" programs, that it's hard to remember what were my favorites. I guess every show was my favorite, my TV turner was glued to THC- I'd say it had to be at least 80% of my viewing time. The only times I didn't watch it was when early non-history crap like AUTOMANIAC, FULL THROTTLE, etc was on. HISTORY'S MYSTERIES and INVESTIGATING HISTORY were good, CIVIL WAR JOURNAL, WWII, HITLER, they all were good. Here's some good news for you, I heard that HISTORY is going to bring back the HISTORY'S MYSTERIES series. Each week they will look into the mystery of what the heck are their Prime Time shows doing on HISTORY ??? One week it will be AX MEN, then IRT, then SHOCKWAVE and on and on.

I saw the promo for this program this morning- another Thom Beers work of crap, same old "world's most dangerous job" tune, different title.

I think you guys should actually learn what a Sandhog is before you say that they should not be on 'The History Channel'! Without these crazy men New York City would not be what it is... do you know who made the Brooklyn Bridge? Do you know who supplies NYC with its water? Or who built the subway systems.. all of these things if not made, would not make NYC the greatest city in the world. And the Sandhogs are the ones who did it! Im not being defensive only because my father and grandfather both have and are working on Water Tunnel #3, but because I never appreciated how amazing there job really is until I really looked into what they do.

I want you guys if at all interested.. which seems you are being that you look at the Sandhogs blog... to check out 'The Sandhog Project' and http://www.premiumhollywood.com/2008/07/11/tca-press-tour-day-2-the-history-channel/ there is also someone who was quite impressed with their history because at first he knew NOTHING about them! This guy really looks into them and states nothing but the facts!

This show is definantly beneficial to all New Yorkers who live in the Metro area!! & should be watched so that others can be educated on this occupation. The sandhogs in this show are not only men who risk their lives on a daily basis but are very entertaining as well. I have met some of the sandhogs in this show and must say they are definantly memorable characters.

My older of 2 sons was a sandhog, seriously injured. Now my younger son is a sandhog. This work is serious, precise, and dangerous. My father was a sandhog. My sons paternal-grandfather, uncles and step-brothers are/were sandhogs. Their father is a Sandhog as well. It is a brotherhood down there, each looking out for the other. I think it is going to be fantastic that this series will show the residents of NYC HOW they get their water. I'm guessing many don't even know.
