Bolshevik History

This is not a matter of debate, but I have been doing some on the side work about the Russian Revolution. However I came across a contradiction in websites about the origins of the Bolseviks.

Some wesites say that at the Second Congress of the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party the Bolsheviks won the majority and some say they were narrowly defeated and therefore the minority. Which is true?

There was a disagreement between Martov who wanted an open party and Lenin who wanted an exclusive party. about 1903 there was a vote and Martov won, then a group withdrew from the organization and this gave Lenin a majority. With the majority Lenin had a new vote and his side won this time. THis disagreement lead to a split with Lenin's side claiming the title bolshevik (majority) and labeling Martov's side Menshivik (minority). Overall Lenin's group was the smaller part yet his followers were willing to work together and so often formed a majority when the other would split.
