Why cant Science and Religion get together on this?

The origin of life, I mean to say.

The Fossil record shows evolution very well, so far. There is a lot of guesswork; for example, the fossil record of humanity is scant enough to fit in the back of a pick-up truck.
However, the basic premise is sound, and well documented.

What they don't explain is how life STARTED, and experiments that tried to show it have been discredited. Some have actually resorted to claiming that Aliens seeded this planet with algae.

Okay, so where did the aliens come from?

So... and I am NOT saying that there is not enough pig-headedness to go around on both sides... but why can't we have some well-educated theologians (yes, there are a good many of them out there) and some open-minded scientists (the kid that are not willing to sell their soul for Nobel Prize money) get together and come up with something new?

Is absolute and total rejection of all things spiritual a requirment for all scientists in this century?

You mean... a theory like:
a Creative Force pushes evolution upward? or, The Tao of Physics?

Something like that.

And would Science try to ignore it if this "force" had a personality?

Exorcist,

John Dewey wrote:
“The pathological segregation of facts and value, matter and spirit, or the bifurcation of nature -- this integration poses the deepest problem of modern life.”

The eminent philosopher and mathematician Alfred North Whitehead wrote:
“The future course of history would center on this generation’s resolving the issue of the proper relationship between science and religion, so fundamental are the religious symbols through which people give meaning to their lives and so powerful the scientific knowledge through which we shape and control our lives.”

So, I think you are on to something. Keep with it.

Do you ever watch TV? Do you watch PBS, or The Science Channel, or the National Geographic Channel, or The History Channel, or History International Channel? They have all had several programs explaining how life originated from nonlife. Here is the transcript from one program:

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/origins/knoll.html

A simplified explanation would be that through random physical and chemical interactions atoms randomly combine to become molecules, molecules randomly combine to become self replicating molecules, self replicating molecules randomly combine to become cells, single cell organisms exist on Earth for about 3,000,000,000 years before developing into multicell organisms, which mutate into more complex organisms in the process of evolution.

Not all scientists totally reject belief in spiritual realms. Some scientists find they can still combine science with a belief in pantheism.

Many scientists are christians such as Crick and Watson who discovered Dna. Darwin continued being a christian after his theory. Einstein even admitted he believed in god and a lot of noble prize winners were religious. They are winners of physics, biology and chemistry. Some of their names are Ernest Chain,Derek Chain and even Williams Phillip(1997)physics. He was known to say that he can't help noticing how many scientists he knows filling the church pews.

cn

Where are you getting your information?

Crick and Watson are known to be Atheists. Who told you they were Xtians?

Albert Einstein made the following statement in 1954 when he became upset that some religious people were claiming that he believed in the existence of a god:

I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it. (Albert Einstein, 1954)

You have made many inaccurate statements on this forum. Why don't you check your beliefs first to see if they are supported by the facts before making a post?

I didn't think I would get any more responses, glad I checked back in.

Yes, I am aware of the experiments on the origin of life, and I also saw how they were shot full of holes, on THC, in fact.

Got into an argument today with a woman who could not believe in evolution since that would contradict Adam and Eve... and I didn't buy that.

Evolution is a matter of matter, not spirit. Flesh came about in a long, slow process, but what does that have to do with the soul?
