The Jedi Religion

Sep 5, 2009 1:38 PM
According to the Washington Post Jedi is the 10th most popular religion on Facebook.

Do you think Jedi is a legitimate answer (as in the concepts expressed appeal to people as a faith in theory if not in practice) is a joke, or is a way of expressing a vague sort of spirituality while remaining private about your actual beliefs?

I found these entries on the web. To me the Sith code almost makes better sense. Of course what do I know, I pray to an underworld Deity : )

There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the Force.
—The Jedi Code (Based on the meditations of Odan-Urr)

The Sith Code

Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.

I liked the Star Wars movies but I didn't take them too seriously, and there was probably a lot that I missed. Maybe the Jedi Code impressed some people more than it impressed me.

Anyway, I read the Washington Post article and this is what I found --

Christian was the #1 faith in both lists.

Followed by Muslim, Atheist and Agnostic -- and we know that these groups are a fairly small percentage of Americans.

After this came Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist and Spiritual, and again -- they are only a small percentage of Americans (less than 5% total).

LAST on the list was Sikh, Rastafarian, Unitarian, and Jedi -- which must be a VERY tiny percentage.

Surely only a fraction of 1%.

Maybe they were just joking, because they liked the Star Wars movies.

Or was there something in the Jedi Code that was more important than I remember?

I don't know.

The "Jedi" religion is actually fleshed out in the novels, graphic novels and comics more than the movies.
And in the movies the one that displayed it the most was the 1st one aka Episode 4 where we are introduced to Luke, Leia, Han and Old Ben Kenobi.

In the later prequels we see a Jedi Order that is more centered around science and tech than religion.

Sound a bit like buddhist and christianity. May the force be with you. May god be with you.

I've thought it over. There's too much evil in the world. -- If a movie inspires anyone to believe in something good, then, we should be glad.

Is there more "evil" than there ever was?

How do you define evil?

Hi null,

I'm sure humans are pretty much the same as past generations. But, societies do change, and so do laws.

For one little example...

I heard the other day that there is an average of one murder each year in Denmark.

They are people are just like us. But their society is different. -- Something in their society or culture has made murder rare. Our murder rate here in the U.S. is ten times their rate.

---- People's hearts are the same, maybe, but the Danish society is different somehow.

In the past generation, America has changed. Obviously we have more abortions, divorces, p0rnography, etc. than we had back in the 1950's or 1960's.

But maybe some evils have decreased. Maybe there is less injustice against women and minorities for example.

i actually posted something about the similiarities between christian and wicca in the christian board and i closed it saying i consider myself a mix of a jedi and a modern satanist lol

i think it truly can be taken as a religion if we seperate it from the enterprise of the disney sell out version of my beloved starwars. (who thinks episodes 1, 2, & 3 were written last minute and werent written "for years")

if you tell someone about it without mentioning jedi, star wars, or anything people will believe its a genuine religion. lol im the only star wars freak who looks like the typical preppy popular girl stereotype so when i talk about no one would guess im talking about luke skywalker and master yoda's religion lol

(also who thinks district 9 is our generations starwars? i do lol)

idk if u can add people or message them but nul. do it if you can lol

Jedi is spelled with the first two letters in Jesus' Disciples: The Holy Spirit is "The Force."

Nice, except that Lucas did not use Christianity as the basis for his religion.

There is no god in the Jedi religion.

that is true but look as pagan religions, particularly wicca. mother nature is there god. the force in jedi is the same thing. its an almighty spirit that is everything therefore controls everything. its really simple.

so because of that i think it should be a legit religion. i mean when we think about it if some other religions out there count, then so should this.
