What Went Down - The Alamo

Just curious. For the 2004 film, made by Disney, they created a replica of the Alamo east of Austin, TX near Hamilton Pool Park. The same site was used in tonight's show. Why wasn't the "other" Alamo, the one built for John Wayne's version in 1960 near Brackettville, TX used? As was pointed out in tonight's show, the 2004 version is not all that accurate, where I've been told the other was spot on.

Den- Maybe the John Wayne version is no longer there- it would be almost 50 years old- I don't know ? What I wondered about is why did the "Texians" build such a large fort , with so few men to defend it ?

the john wayne alamo is still there and is open to the public. it is more accurate from a dimension standpoint but the disney one is more accurate in general appearance.

My understanding is that it was not built as a fort it was built as a mission. It's use of a fort was a matter of expediancy.

Fun show! My students and I hope to see more episodes in this series--Lincoln, WWI, Boston Tea party . Informative and entertaining.
