I'm trying to find out what was the first Marine unit into Iraq. From what I can find, it appears that the 15th MEU was the first, but I was hoping you guys could help me double-check that.
I was also hoping to find the first Marine unit into A-stan. From what I can find, VMFA-312 was the first, followed by Second Battalion, Fifth Marines and HMM-165 (REIN) from the 15th MEU(SOC), and Battalion Landing Team 2/6 and HMM-264 (REIN) from the 26th MEU(SOC).
Can anyone confirm this?
