The Forgotten War - Korea

Oct 17, 2009 1:11 PM
In my opinion, however bloody and violent the Korean War was, we should've gone in there to protect the last incubator for democracy in Northeast Asia from communism. Imagine the slaughter that would've taken place if the Chinese triumphantly marched through Seoul, you think the war would've ended? Northeast Asia would become a killing spree, much like Pol Pot in Cambodia. What do you think?

What in God's name do you mean nothing, we left with a secure democracy in Asia, an Asian mainland American sphere of influence where for a small percentage of the continent, the West lives in the East.

True, we did lose a lot, and it is debatable to say that [we] gained anything in the war, but can't you say that we stuck for something greater than just gain? Some people regard your thinking as rationality, but do you know what it really is underneath? Selfishness, pure and utter selfishness. Imagine a communist Korea, who's to say that we stopped fighting in Vietnam? WE might have just stayed there, kept Truman's containment policy and maybe even have broken out nuclear war with Russia. Put that tin cup back in your pocket you selfish money grabber, the South Koreans and Americans paid enough with their lives and dedication.

While the end of World War II brought peace and prosperity to most Americans, it also created a heightened state of tension between the Soviet Union and the United States.
lets start this with how it started

Fearing that the Soviet Union intended to "export" communism to other nations, America centered its foreign policy on the "containment" of communism, both at home and abroad. Although formulation of the Truman Doctrine, Marshall Plan, and the Berlin Airlift suggested that the United States had a particular concern with the spread of communism in Europe, America's policy of containment extended to Asia as well. Indeed, Asia proved to be the site of the first major battle waged in the name of containment: the Korean War.

Your mind seems to be a giant Wikipedia, Vietnam was fought in way that was during an era filled with anti-government protests, hippies, violence and a small world disorder. Vietnam was lost, because the North Vietnamese broke the treaty after we left. South Vietnam was lost. But South Korea? I don't know what you see, but isn't South Korea still around? And furthermore, despte popular misconception, the Chinese and North Koreans did not force us to stop the offensive on North Korea, Eisenhower wanted the war to end, so we left after that. But at the time of the treaty, we were once again driving the Chinese back even across the old border prior to the war. Does that ring military defeat to you? What do your sources say?

Okay, 1/3 of that was true, yes we did lose many lives, but seriously, costly? Economic hurt? The Fifties were the biggest period of economic growth we've experienced in history. Even more so after the Korean War. So how could we come out with economic hurt after the war?
