I'm beginning

Aug 4, 2002 11:41 AM
to think we are miscommunicating again.

I don't have to show Isreali 'culpability' because that was not the point of my post. This post was not about saying Isreal never lies, it was about the deliberate state-sponsored disinformation that the Palestinians are about, and the reasons why they are probably less trustworthy than a country that has a free press.

Also, using Lynne Cheney

Aug 4, 2002 11:50 AM
to make a point about journalistic truth is borderline foolish.

This is the woman who throughout the '80's used, and many say abused, her power as head of the NEH to advance her biased agenda.

She also felt it necessary to lie about her lesbain daughter Mary. Mary seems to be a decent person and corporate relations manager for Coors but evidently Mommy Lynne has a problem coming to grips with a situation she obviously does not approve of.

Please, if you don't mind my being pushy........don't you see a difference between a country that has a free press and a state that has a government controlled press?

And......What do you think of the merits this article has? Do you just discount the whole thing?

Merc, of course

there is a huge difference in a free and government controlled media. But even in a "free" press there are many abuses, power plays and distortions. You know that.

As for the article: I don't doubt that most of it is probably true. But, so what? As I said in the other posts I can find almost exact documentations and reports that are mirror images of this one but with the Arab or PAL slant. They basically mean nothing. What counts is what the two nut case leaders of these two sides do.

Arafat and Sharon both belong in prison. They are a single monster with two heads and should be called a Sharafat whenever talking about them.

Anyone who defends either is quite stupid or a hypocrite. Or both.

BTW, the article loses credibility by quoting a person such as Lynne Cheney.

How does a person know what is true and what is not?

Aug 4, 2002 3:22 PM
Naturally, since most of us have never been to the Middle East, do not read Arabic or Hebrew, and have not personally experienced the events in question, we have to rely on second hand sources. We also know that people tend to present information about events in a way that favors their cases. So, how do we appraise the veracity of the various sides? Hmmmmmm . . . That might be a post in itself.

That would be one ugly a#$ monster. You are right--both of those men belong in jail and the key should just disappear.

You can't even believe

Aug 4, 2002 10:14 PM
some of the stuff you read.

After the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Gen.Curtis LeMay was quoted as saying it was barbaric and unnecessary. But years later he told the BBC he believes that Truman made the right descision.

So when I hear that someone says something, you have to wonder when they said it and under what cercomstances they said it. Also if they were just thinking about it or actually did what they said. And did they change their views later. One thing is for sure though. Actions speak louder than words. You can say anything. It's what you do that counts.

It's in my bio, but it's not 'my' page, it's Galt's. I've been trying to be a bit discreet with my recruiting, so I don't get banned. ;)

PS~~~Where'd she get it?

With regard to this statement, "the Palestinians are attacking the truth and creating facts out of whole cloth", please consult the below information on the controversey in Israeli academia over the truth.
