Why does History Channel have "UFO Files" as part of its programming?

Discovery Channel is now doing a series of UFO shows. So what is up with all of these UFO shows?

A very good question. What IS History Channel's seeming obsession with UFOs?

Or is the UFO programming bought, as it appears, from pro-UFO groups trying to convince the public that "we're being watched", however illogical that is (for one thing, what allegedly intelligent civilization would play hide-and-seek for decades?)

Is the History Channel too cash-strapped to buy historical footage or produce truly educational material that it has to serve as a propaganda conduit for groups with a paranoid bent?

Well, it looks like the History Channel does not read its own forums. Maybe starting a chain e-letter and send it to History Channel to get their attention.

I too am so fed up with this UFO programming so totally excessive. It might be OK once in a while, but this topic totally dominates the prime time scheduling. Someone in the History chanel management is a UFO maniac. There are so many legitimate, documented history topics the History channel could cover. Mix it up!!

I'm sure no one will read this, but some how I feel better. It is a good method to silence objectors, set up a forum just for UFO, hide it away, and never pay any attention to it! I am losing one of my favorite channels to fruits and nuts. Hold it there is a Big Foot knocking at the door. Oh yea, I saw an Ivory Billed Woodpecker this morning. Regards, JEG.

Some of you are very narrow minded about the subject of UFO's. There's a LOT of history and historical events that include the sighting of UFO's. Roswell, NM spends an entire week each year with the crash fest based on a supposed UFO crash back in 1947. That makes it a historical event. I’ve been there and interviewed people who claim they were there, saw the craft and the dead “little people.”

UFO's were said to have been sighted in Old Testament times, as well as New Testament and then on into the future. UFO’s have been sighted by different people for thousands of years. They were observed by the ancient Egyptians and some reference to this is recorded in the Egyptian Book of the Dead. They called them bright boats that went to and from the God RA who was in the heavens. The Book of the Dead also includes reference a reference to the “two earths.”

I love shows about historical events, I hate most shows about sports but that doesn’t stop them from taking off my favorite shows in order to show a sporting event. Somewhere near 80% of all Americans believe in and want more info about UFO’s. It is clear the people who choose what they show on the History channel are not trying to please any single group of people, which is good. We all like different things and that’s what makes us who we are. Thanks to DVRs I record what I want to watch and don’t bother with the things I have no interest in. If you don’t like UFO shows don’t watch them, simple as that.

I started this thread inorder to get a responce from the History Channel and my question was why they are putting some much air time into the subject. A question that is still going unanswered along with many other threads with question to the History Channel.

There are a few people who dislike the subject, I have watch all of them so far. The subject does not deserve the attention that the History Channel has been giving it.

Would you like watch an endless parade of shows talking about Custer's stand at the Little BIg Horn. One show on the subject is enough.

Jeg - A lot of folks show a wilfull ignorance and lazy prejudice about this subject.
They've not educated themselves about the many authenticated military UFO cases where objects have been captured and plotted on ground/air radar travelling immense speeds ,executing right angle turns (without slowing down) and generaly displaying completely unprecedented aerial manouverability and flight characterisitcs.
Many of these objects have also been correlated on the ground and have been witessed by trained military observers.
Although this might cause a little righteous indignation there is more tangible evidence for the existence of UFOs than there is of God -so why not scrap all religious programming?
