fear mongering

This isnt about these forums or the website, rather its about the History channel as a whole. Fear mongering. Nearly every single show that the History Channel now shows seems to be just one big fear fest, from the Armageddon shows, to even The Universe, they all revolve around how close to death and disaster we are. The worst and most often used line in so many of these shows: "Its not a matter of if, but WHEN!" *insert scary sound track here*

I understand that fear gets better ratings than happiness, but give me a break. You guys devoted an entire episode of The Universe (and other shows entirely) to the multitude of ways we'll all be destroyed (remember, its not if, but when...BE AFRAID!!!!). Needless to say I didnt watch that episode, and lately, I find myself watching less and less of the History Channels shows in general for the exact reason of all the fear mongering. It gets really old, really fast.

Its pretty sad, The History channel used to be one of the few channels I could turn to at nearly any time of the day or week and find something I like, but lately it seems to be just one fear mongering show after another.

How about NOT fear mongering? Hard concept to grasp, I know, but I'm sure you guys can do it. Oh, and while I'm on my soap box, it would also be nice if the History Channel could cut back on all the Global Warming hystaria too. I know it makes for great ratings too, but I find it rather insutling when my TV is telling me to feel guilty about how bad I treat the planet.

Just a thought.

The Disney company...

The Disney company is in the business of selling air-time, hence they even turn a formerly interesting channel (The History Channel), in just History as a name and fill it with what sells sponsor time.

Be it Monster Quest, UFOs, Nostradomas, and other non-history related material. There hasn't been a decent program on the History channel concerning history since Ice Road Truckers came along a few years back. It was going downhill at that time, and the slide has only accelorated since.

Now I yearn for a few replayed hours of that crappy In Search Of with Lenard Nimoy.
