Saw Dogfights: the Greatest Air Battles special on Fri. night. It was awesome! Noticed it was made by same production company that does MC. Really enjoyed the computer animation and amazing battles - love to see more like this!

Yeah Dogfights was awsome, I watched the whole thing then watched it 2x again on Tivo. How come there's no subject category for this show? when's the next one going to air?

I don't suppose they covered Robert Johnson in his P-47C kicking the crap out of a Mk.IX Spitfire, did they?

Actually, I thought that it was a good 'next step' in aviation documentaries. Although I have read about all airwars, the First World War is the area where I feel strong enough to actually dare to comment in public.

I thought that one of the 'experts' was wrong on two comments:

1. No parachutes, largely true, however, the Germans introduced the Heine parachute harness in May 1918. This save many lives, including Udet's. However the device had a 1 in 4 failure rate which claimed Lowenhardt's life.

2. Richthofen never shot down an aircraft with a shot gun! By the time he left the Uhlans to fly as an observer, the machine gun was already in use. Any kills he made in that roll would have been with a parabellum.

Had the producers allowed one of their commentators, Howard Fisher, to proof the pre-release, some of this would have been cleared up.

3. There were a few graphics errors in the WWI segment. (landing gear on bsckwards, exhausts onthe wrong side of a DVII."Alright who flipped the Fokker!")

However, the biggest blunder was the depiction of the LVG observation plans doing a roll prior to their dive. Could not have happened!

They really did put me "in the cockpit." As Oliver said: "Please, sir, more!"

"DogFights" is re-running tomorrow night (Friday 8-10PM)
Smart move - I'll be watching!
Anyone know how to post a new subject for "On Tv?" Be great to have a separate forum catagory for "DogFights".

As an active aerobatics pilot with 30+ hours of recreational (thank God) dogfights logged to date, I was really impressed with the animations and how clearly and realistically they illustrated many dogfight maneuvers.

For example, I've done many a "rolling scissors" in real life, and seeing such fine animation was actually the first time I truly understood what I was doing and how the aircraft are engaged in actual airspace.

It looks much different out the windscreen. And if you've ever seen a flight instructor trying to describe such a maneuver using models (or only his hands), you know it's almost a physically impossible task. I wish I'd seen this program before ground school.

Great work! I hope to see more like Dogfights. It would be my favorite series!

I've caught "Dogfight" each time it's been on. The story's are good, but the CGI really hits a home run. CGI used to tell a story is great, used willi-nilli, welllll.
I like the attention to detail the artist uses. IE. oil leaks at rivets, exhaust stains, light sourses etc. I'd like to see a full length motion picture [A Private Ryan, or Cross of Iron type movie] done in CGI.Story line & all. It would give the CGI artist all the freedom they'd need to produce a good film. IF, no corners were cut and attention to detail & realism was observed. If Pixar can do storys about talking animals, cars, robots etc. Then how 'bout that event in the Pacific during WWII when a Japanese Army unit entered the swamp[I want to say, Burma?] and was desimated by Crocadiles. Anyone else know this story? I've only heard the subject touched on a couple of times, I'd like to know more.
Anyway, loved " Dogfights" next should be "Tank battles", "Battleship Hunt" etc. More please!!!

I caught a show on after the last Dogfights called Combat Garage. Is this a new series?? It was put together really well and was wondering if there were any more I should look for?? I like the mix of history mixed with the current build project. No over the top drama - just straight building with knowledgeable guys...

i'm starting to see more and more dogfights!
its a very good show but i feel that they seem alike too much!
i have seen some nam ones and some ww2 ones over china but there are not many Europe ones (disapointment)
i belive that Europe dogfights would be an excellent attractiion to dogfights!!
am i right??
