If you could get a job with a company like UPS, drive around 10 hours and be home daily, wear company clothes, never get your hands dirty, make $75,000 a year with benefits and retirement package like Congress...do it. If you are going to work for a company that trains drivers for a full three weeks, hires illegal, non-English speaking immigrants, pay nothing and sometimes force you to be a warehouseman unloading their trucks (i.e., Swift, B.J. Hunt, Werner, PAM, and most of the others), do yourself a favor and get on welfare. I would suggest YellowRoadway for a good job, but they are not expected to make it through the end of the month. Obama will buy them and put the less fortunate in the driver's seats eventually, so forget that idea also. The LESS you do in America the higher your reward monetarily.

I am 53 years old and have been involved in trucking since I was 14 years old so I think 39 years experience is a fair sampling of trucking all be it in Canada . In the last 24 years I have put away my gear jamming boots and donned office attire and mamaged somewhere in the vicinity of 500- 600 different drivers and not one of them that ever took a dispatch or a pay cheque from me came close to being treated like a convict exept perhaps the ones that behaved like one ......... I have the good fortune to have developed friendships with truckers, warehouseman , clerks , dispatcahers , and CEO's from dozens of trucking companies and I dont see the world you describe , nope not even close . And I have seen it get better for tHe drivers with some pretty dang nice hardware to play with compared to the the old Transtar halfshacks I got dispatched to. ......

Dave I totally agree. We all have choices to make, take low paying jobs with low expectations OR make a career out of it. To be the best means working with the best. It's a tougher path with bigger rewards. Working in the north is different from working down south, not a better "breed", just a different one.

Yes true convicts have it better than truck drivers ,and I quoted good old JB Hunt when he was testifying before congress in the 90's trying to get the hours of service and other laws and uniform speed limits nationwide to improve life for drivers like he really cared I belive . .But driving for a living has become a joke since the liberials and the goverment think they know how to operate trucks .trucking has become like farming in america after somebody shows up in the office and says I am from the goverment how can I help .But you being from Canada I can see your point of veiw since you guys whine and cry when an American truck hauls a load back out and you accuse us of taking work from the canadians .

.But you being from Canada I can see your point > of veiw since you guys whine and cry when an American > truck hauls a load back out and you accuse us of > taking work from the canadians No-Brainer , you really dont know much about trucking period . the word "' CABOTAGE" was first applied when you guys south of the 49th started the whining to protect the trucking of the USA. As a matter of fact the ability to have one of the southern trucks unload in one Canadian city and then reload at another Canadian city to get back south was granted by our DOT and it wasnt reciprocated on your end and our trucks had to deadhead home . The whining as you call it was originated there not here . Canadian trucking actually had to purchase existing US carriers and use that division to try and compete to get loaded miles instead of non revenue deadheading . No-Brainer you sure find it easy to make yourself look as stupid as I think you really are , bravo Dave
