Irt s1-s2 my web site is down,my teenage daughter is teck-no savy and she built it, as of now she is re-building it,with stuff from season 2, but being a teenager getting her to sit down and do it, is like pullin teeth. Her social life comes first....lololololo ...mostly because its summer and no school. The purple truck belongs to my employer in inuvik (Matco) so no I have never driven it again since I left Inuvik. Miss it tho as it was a sweet ride for an old rig. Cheers Drew

I have a question for Drew: "Why did you quit when things didn't go your way last season?" You say you signed on to be an ice road trucker, and those guys have a deadline, so by you quitting, you might have messed with their deadline. Didn't that thought phase you at all? Didn't you want to be a part of a team? All those drivers work as a team, even the owner/operators--a team of men/women with one mission, to get the loads delivered before the ice melts. So, why did you quit? Sure, they want the money, but overall, it was a team effort." I really don't think Drew and Rick leaving messed up their schedule, but just the thought that they MIGHT have messed up the scheduling would hold most drivers to their contract, encouraging them tofinish what they started. jckst

UMMM I did finish season two there was no team or people to let down. I made the choice to leave one employer in favor of another( which ended up being the best choice) and never let them down while I was there. If they asked me to run a box truck, forklift, sweep the floor or unload an inboundI trailer ,I did it ..To me trucking isnt ALL about the macho loads. its about doing what is needed to get it done. As for season one after having to spend a large amount of my own money to stay in yellowknife while waiting for the brown truck to be fixed and then finding out Hugh would not contibute towards my costs..I made the choice to leave and cut my loses..after all I went up there to make money not spend it and come home in debt.which is what happened. some may say that All the breakdowns were my fault... But I know otherwise. You can gift wrap c r a p but in the end you still have ......c r a p . which is why I love this yrs show as it`s now Hugh hauling c r a p .

Drew, I have been surprised that no studded tires or traction sand is used when conditions are real bad. Here in N. Idaho we use traction devices as needed (on the tires and road surface) when conditions become icy. Now I am not refering to mag chloride, which has a melting effect....obiviously bad for the ice road! Of course retaining the thickness of the ice is important. Is this friction effect why no traction devices are used? Or is it due to the cold? I know at curtain temps. our icy Idaho roads actually get sticky for a short time so trucks don't need the traction aids. I was also wondering if sand is not used due to a darker, sandy, surface which melts faster. Thanks for the answer in advance...this has been bugging me as a former log truck driver. That ice looks so slick and it is CRAZY when the tires lose traction and stop rolling!!

Oops my mistake. I should have said why did you quit season one? You can't tell me that after all the loads you ran you went home in the red? How many breakdowns did you have total? I'm not taking sides btwn you and Hugh, but you did cause some of your own headaches up there, so if you would have stayed and finished the season, don't you think you would have made a profit? jckst

You did fine. In business you need to do what you say. After being told to come back every few hours I would have wondered myself what was up after a few days and went and looked for other work. I have one question that has bugged me for over a year, did you ever get to kick the behind of the guy who left the poo in the baggy stuffed in the sleeper? I would have driven 3000 miles to get that dude. What was his name anyway? Singing Poop baggy Bob? That is the single most disgusting thing I have ever heard when it come to trucking. I know of a lot of people who will not take a used truck because of that part of the show. They are worried about a surprise in the sleeper. GAG! --

Wow gypogal, what a great question. I don't know for sure, however I have driven a lot in Idaho, Montana and other icy places in the winter and the only time I have had to chain up when I was on a flat road was when it was around 32 degrees and there was slush and water on top of the ice. Once the temperature gets down far enough where there is no water or slush on the roadway the frozen ice has pretty good traction considering it is ice. I have run hundreds of miles out 84 without chains until there was a grade where I had to go up or down and for safety I chained up the truck. I would guess it is the same up there when the road surface is under 20 degrees the ice usually stays frozen unless the sun is beating down on it. I gave you my thoughts and experience on the ice here in the states and I doubt the ice is any different up there. I do like the fact we have asphalt under the ice here though and not the ocean. Oh yea, running chains on the truck on ice really makes for a rough and very noisy ride. It is not a very pleasant thing to listen too mile after mile without loosing your mind and back. It is kind of like running over 2X4 lumber every few inches in the road and it limits you to slower speeds too. Maybe one of the drivers up north will tell you what they think. Cheers --

hey IRTS you told me in another thread that Drew answered my questions. I don't really see where he said anything I specifically asked in his reply here * Nice he came on and posted to us in general though ! Again, Drew are you getting TV time at all during last 2 episodes or was that it after that one haul over the ice a few weeks ago?
