When the History Channel first started out, the programming was great. Now there is hardly any history at all being shown. It's nothing but back to back episodes of Modern Marvels, disaster shows, martial art shows, and tabloid fodder like UFOs and Big Foot. The other day I actually saw a show on Andrew Jackson and thought I went back in time to 1985. I want history, not the garbage they have been giving us.

I agree to an extent, I love the History channel, in fact thats basically what my tv is tuned to 24/7, but I would like to see more shows or documentaries thats meaningful and beneficial to the public. Maybe some more shows on individuals in history or somthing like that, I dont know, But what I do know is that Rough RIder is dead on with his statement about modern marvels, why just yesterday the History channel and The History International channel both had Modern Marvels airing, at the same time, for almost two hours straight. -- "It's a good thing war is so horrible, otherwise we might fall in love with it." I agree. Although I must admit I do like Monster Quest, IRT and some others, I miss the wonderful historical documentaries. I do like SOME of the Modern Marvels, however, I get tired of seeing reruns of this EVERY SINGLE DAY. I have the same problem with the repeat programming on the Discovery channel of mediocre shows. I was especially disappointed a couple of weeks ago that the show that the History Channel pumped up so much last year, "Desperate Crossings: The Untold Story of the Mayflower" was only aired ONCE the Sunday morning before Thanksgiving! When I emailed them to complain about this, (I REALLY enjoyed that last year and so did my family) the response was that I could watch it in hour increments at 6AM M-W the following week. But that was the ONLY time it was replaying. I couldn't believe it. But then, every once in a while they throw us a bone like "The Revolution" series and the Andrew Jackson one you mentioned. So perhaps all is not lost...

Traminer you are exactly to the point, yes some modern marvel episodes are alright, i particularly like the ones on distilleries. But, to air it on both the History and History international channels at the same time is just rediculous. Dont get me wrong either, the history channel is great but they have strayed far from it in these recent years. -- "It's a good thing war is so horrible, otherwise we might fall in love with it." Yep. I used to live by the History Channel. But not so much any more becuase I have no desire to watch shows about monsters or religion. What happened to great shows like Tales of The Gun or Shoot Out, or the host of shows they use to run on WWII and WWI. I don't know who the Executives at the History Channel are catering too...but I can tell you that they have certainly lost me as a viewer. Honestly, Monster Quest is the stupidest program yet.

The channel is now more fluff than anything else. I *used* to have it on all the time. Now, very rarely. I refuse to watch such incredibly stupid and questionable (and even objectionable) programs such as: Gangland Monsterquest Human Weapon Mega Disasters Ice Road Truckers even The Universe stinks. And I'm a tested genius. What has happened to The History Channel? This is what happened to The History Channel: http://www.jackmyers.com/commentary/lunch-at-michaels/9920727.html Read it and leave comments. Lots of comments. I hate to see what has happened to what used to be a fine channel and one of the only bastions of worthwhile programming left on TV.

does anyone know what those documentaries of WWII were called, the ones narrated by Roger Mudd? I watched those when I was 10 years old and went nuts for them. I'd like to know what those were called so i can try to buy them. And i completely agree that THC is chasing ratings instead of historical accuracy and relevance

I absolutely agree, it almost seems diliberate the way the programming has gone completely awry, but like someone stated earlier, they are after ratings not "history", in the end though they're just shooting themselves in the foot..

I agree. The show gangland sickens me to death. Why do they want to air that dumb show. Now gang-bangin criminals will watch the show and get more ideas and being in a gang will appeal to even more kids. But then again the history channel is doing even more surprising things like barely airing anything relating to religion around Christmas time like they used to. Not saying I'm a very religious but I find it kinda strange they had alot of Hitler stuff on just before Christmas this year. Maybe they are afraid they will offend someone with the whole Christmas stuff. I still love the history channel but wish they would do more history. I hope they never change history just to please certain groups of people either. History is History deal with it, right? dan

I swear this channel went from "history" to black helicopter conspiracy big foot hoo-ha and reality shows. What the heck is going on here? About the only damned thing this show has in common with history is the place is it going to be should this keep up.

I agree absolutely. This used to be a channel of substance with real educational value. I am really disappointed to see that it has dropped historical series like Dog Fights in favor of series like Gangland with little or nothing to do with history. It seems like someone completely cut the production budget. Next they'll be airing two year old re-runs of Miami Ink. Bring back the History!!!

I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiments expressed in these posts. The "History " channel is getting into the same sad format as the "Learning " channel with the tattoo mania and mock "reality" of motorcycle shops that shop out all the work except making a gas tank and fender. The martial arts shows are dull at best and the monster shows are pathetic. I have to believe the ratings are falling as fast as their quality.
