Sorry to "me, too!", but thanks, FarMcKon! Hear, hear! Also, to the terrible two who have nothing but naysaying, chill out. You guys were saying yourselves that the History Channel long ago left its format of documentaries and actual history for something far more lucrative. Why do you still haunt the forums of the behemoth that you hate, and, moreover, if you do haunt these forums frequently enough, why can't you bring together a following of fans who want a change in format? I, for one, who love the history of both science and also America, would love to see some new history-intensive content on this channel, and even some older content (i.e. let's see a Ken Burns marathon for crying out loud!), plus there's so much rich fodder for all approaches to scientific history that Bre's show could easily take one angle (how it not only works, but how to make it and its impacts), while other shows can address the stories behind the technologies and advances. Moreover, you guys should see what the DIY movement is doing, and yes, we refer to ourselves as a movement. Take a look at the Make: Magazine website sometime, for example, because you'll see a lot of ingenuity that harkens back to a former, pre-consumerist era. (http://www.makezine.com) And Bre, once again, great job, and wherever this show winds up, we're with you, and we'll be watching!

What Bre needs to do is use the exact materials used, what we would call living history. But using junk from around his house is what turned me off. I am sure DIY is movement, but if Bre is going to be on the Hostory channel, he needs to do more than create stuff out of junk from his house or taking field trips to modern day things. I have seem similar things of kidde scince shows going back to Mr. Wizard. I do agree with you, I "would love to see some new history-intensive content on this channel, and even some older content (i.e. let's see a Ken Burns marathon for crying out loud!),"

petmar- Apparently you only read the stacked "FAN CLUB" forums- check out the forums that don't ask "Who's your favorite........" and you'll see there are many long time, faithful viewers who feel that the new management is driving NON-HISTORY into the ground.

petmar- Or just look in this Forum- HISTORY NOW- other than this FAN CLUB for "Non-History Hacker" most of the topics are alienated NON-HISTORY posters.

This show was SO AWESOME!!! I loved the syle, the animations, and the projects and places that Bre visited. Tesla has always fascinated me, and the cool DIY style of the show really caught my attention. It's something that I could really relate to, because I love working on projects. I really hope to see some more episodes of this show in the future!

Ok you one hit wonders, who seem to enjoy this show for its science content or pretty lights, this is the HISTORY Channel. Really should one academic subject suffer for another. This is what the History Channel is doing with all of these science shows. Than after educating people with junk science they dumb or minds down more with reality shows, where all the people can ask is which (Sandhog, Ice Road Trucker or Ax Man) do you like. It already seems that the next generation does not know history that well. I was doing some observation hours at middle school a couple of years back and the teacher asked the class to draw what trench warfare was. The students kept asking stuff, like how to draw ninjas, Ak-47?s, RPG?s, Atomic Bombs. All of which were things that were not in WWI. Kids that now watch this channel are more interested in playing Ice Road Truckers. I don?t know what: 1.seeing the process behind the building of the neon tubes/lights. 2.demonstrating how to build some the devices 3.getting a kiddo interested and asking questions about electricity. 4. watching a video version of MAKE magazine. 5.Seeing the NYC power plant, MIT lab, electric generator in the basement of the New Yorker Hotel, etc., 6.watching Bre Pettis take each world-changing invention and build it from simple stuff found in people's closets and junkyards. 7.getting someone thinking about possibilities for propulsion systems for their next sci-fi novel. 8.Making someone wonder can they replace household lighting with neon? 9.Is not a historical rendition, nor a biography, but is a creative show about how we use thought, scientific thought, and reformulate those ideas into a contemporay context 10.used the work "hack" too many times to stress the point, or make lazy people feel as though they were a part of the maker/hacker/diy community. Have to do with history? Nothing . From all these descriptions pulled from these post supporting this show, it seems like another run of the mill science experiment show. The wall street journal describes Bre as "Mr. Rogers, Mr. Wizard and Bill Nye ?The Science Guy? rolled into one." So does this mean we need to give Bill Nye a show on the History Channel. To drive home the point, one poster suggested even bringing in a ?a local high-school science teacher or three, and keep them in the loop from start to finish.? The emphasis here seems to be on science, which would be ok if the was the Science Channel, but this is the History Channel. Bre?s has not been in anyway ?a chronological record of significant events (as affecting a nation or institution) often including an explanation of their cause."

Folks, What a great show!! A unique and fascinating approach to examining historical technology and its modern legacy. And Bre Pettis doesn't just talk about it and do the "TV Host bit" -- he's obviously taken the trouble to learn the technology and is clearly doing the work on tasks like glassblowing and soldering. Believe me, viewers can tell if a TV "personality" is faking it or not and Bre is the real deal! The camera work is also new and interesting. MORE, PLEASE. Best regards, Stan & Bunny Stumbo

No, not enough said. If it is nothing but pretty flashing lights and cool, it is not eductional or good for that matter. But you one time posters don't seem to get it. This is the History Channel, not the Sciennce Channel. It has been many things, but anything to do with History to you one hit wonders

> But you one time posters don't seem to get it you made your point and I did 'get it'. If everyone would try to get his point over as often as you do, there would be no more 'one time posters' on this board - just random, boring and stupid discussions

I recorded it and watched it the next day. Absolutely loved it! Really looking forward to watching it with my son when he comes back on Friday. This is the kind of show that gets me excited about history---and that doesn't happen too often. Pick it up, please!

I just saw this on Tivo at my friends house and was quite impressed. Although it's not a hardcore history show, I still thought it could work on a channel devoted to history. I was sorry to see some members here get their britches in a twist over a network's decision to include it in their format. Ease up. It's TV. If enough people don't watch the show it'll move along. I don't think the few dissenting members in this thread are serving that interest.
