This was a great show!!! I loved it, My daughter loved it. even the baby sat the entire hour and watched. Got the kiddo interested and asking questions about electricity. Anything that can get a 4yo curious, is awsome in my book. (future Hacker in the making!)
Keep up the great work Bre. Good luck

I loved the 9/26/08 pilot of "History Hacker". The show was stimulating on many levels - intellectually, visually and creatively.

I loved watching Bre Pettis take each world-changing invention and build it from simple stuff found in people's closets and junkyards. It was a lot more interesting than the boring way that electricity and the electric light are explained on other science shows.

Seeing the NYC power plant, MIT lab, electric generator in the basement of the New Yorker Hotel, etc., added a real-world setting to each project that Bre tackled. That was very smart.

The show had a lot of energy (no pun intended). Talking to the camera and the "in your face" gestures and dialog really jazzed up the whole show. Having Bre ride his bike or skateboard to and from each setting was a great way to keep the energy flowing.

The best thing about "History Hacker" was Bre's interactions with all of the different people who helped him build stuff, or who showed stuff they had built or were responsible for. These interactions were a lot more fun than the traditional way that a TV show host interviews guests about their work. This approach made me feel like I was part of the show, going along with Bre on his mission, and getting information and help from all of these people. This gave me a very creative feeling that very few shows ever give their audience.

I'd love to see the story of every great invention in history portrayed on "History Hacker", such as the internal combustion engine, the Wright brothers' powered flight, cryptography, radio, television, penicillin and other medicines, even financial inventions like insurance.

Please keep producing more episodes of "History Hacker".

I loved it! This reminded me of being a kid and loving cool shows that made science fun. In my day, it was MacGyver that got us interested in learning and creating--now Bre can fill those sneakers. ;) If I were that age now, I'd be scrounging around the house for anything I could use to build my own version of a Tesla coil. :)

As it was, this got me thinking about possibilities for propulsion systems for my next sci-fi novel. Very cool.

And holy cow, the Wright Brothers--I would *love* to see what Bre would do with that! (But, um...safely.) ;)

Great show, I learned a lot. I don't watch much of the History Channel but I'll tune in every time this show airs. Hell, I registered to your website just to leave this comment!

Great show! The host is very entertaining and I like his style of informing with enthusiasm. I really liked the art for the animated segments as well. The show topic is of personal interest to me and I'm happy to see Mr. Tesla's name get as much coverage in the world of science as possible. That said, I want to see what Bre tackles next. More episodes please.

More please.

This was so very interesting and engaging. History with vitality, and making sense for my day-to-day life.

I actually roamed around the house this morning and unplugged assorted wall-warts. Now I am wondering, can I replace household lighting with neon?

I happened to run across the show about 10 minutes in. I enjoyed watching most of it, wish he had gone into a bit more detail on what he was building.

One minor disappointment for me was the whole Tesla coil thing at the end. It seemed like it was just used to get people that aren't interested in the history and science to watch the show.

Maybe the tesla coil part could have been made more interesting by explaining what it actually is and how it works instead of just saying what amounts to "ooh, look! Big thing go zap zap zap."

But overall I enjoyed the show, had no clue what it was when I first started watching it and wanted to find out when it was going to be on again

Wow. I have been concerned about getting any great hip programing for the early teen crowds that the whole family can get involved in. We had some exciting dialogue about science, glass, art, and history after the NEW PILOT_HISTORY HACKER. I wish this could be distributed to every high school and middle school classroom for discussions on green building and waste, future energy discussions, and how techno revolutions come about. Two scientists, one sets the standard for the next centuries, another perhaps has to be revisited at another right time and place for a new revolution to happen. Your programming subject ---- HISTORY HACKER TESLA---forces all these ideas. It is not a how to, nor a historical rendition, nor a biography. It is a creative show about how we use thought, scientific thought, and reformulate those ideas into a contemporay context with new historical concerns. Thankyou. Finally, I think only Bre Pettis could disseminate this with the freshness of a skateboarder on hallucinogens to the beat of synthesized music and the look of an Andy Warhol in Roger Rabbits facial expressions. Great.Claudia in Washington..

Really enjoyed the show! I am a fan of Tesla, and this show taught me a few things I had not known about the man. I also really enjoyed seeing the process behind the building of the neon tubes/lights.
Well done, educational - AND entertaining and I hope to see another show soon.

Not to step on anyones toes but I have a hard time believing that there was absolutely no historical information involved in this show. I understand where you are coming from and do feel that shows like axmen have little to do with exact historical events ( although a lot of history has been made in the United States thanks to people like them). I also think that this is not your typical historical show that just lays out the facts. However, I thought that there was quite a bit of historical information throughout history hacker and while it was not a biography or even a modern marvels episode, I feel that there is no problem placing it on the history channel. If the history channel doesn't pick up this show I truthfully hope someone does because I think that it has a lot to offer.

I hadn't even intended to bother creating an account to post on this show, but a few things in the preceding pages bothered me.

First, even though this wasn't really the type of programming I'd normally watch, I Tivo'd it after seeing a mention on Lifehacker.com - which I'd guess is the same for many of the low-post Commenters in this thread. Odd host, he could use some polish for sure and hopefully he gets that chance. This is the kind of thing I could see my 8-year old nephew watching all the way through. And anything that gets his attention away from his Nintendo can't be all bad!

To the "regular" posters Ltrazordaddio & sovietcollector who insist on being overly critical & slamming people trying to lend some support to a new show - get over it. There WAS some history involved, even if it wasn't 100% of the content of the show. So what? Maybe it lends a little fresh air to a channel that people typically think of as nothing more than stuffy, hashed-over material that's been repeated a thousand times already. Perhaps this does belong on a Science or Discovery channel, but at least give the guy a chance to present something new & interesting instead of complaining that it's a knock-off of several other shows.

And no, I'm not a relative, fan or even passingly familiar with the host. Good luck to him though, don't let 'em get you down!
