I was wondering if they were going to do a show on the BB56. This hero ship served in several major conflicts and earned 15 battle stars. The men who served on this ship in WWII earned the Navy Cross, however the cross was given to the Admiral of the ship and the men never recieved their Cross. The table that Japan used to sign the peace treaty on was borrowed from the Washington. The Missouri did not have a table worthy of using so they borrowed the table from the BB56. The BB56 was sold for scrap and the Missouri was saved and is now a floating museum for all to see. My grandfather served on this Hero Ship along side many other hero's in WWII

I collect Cressy prints, and have one of the USS Washington in my downtown office.

I seond the nomination of the Washington! She was a major player during WWII- particulary in the Pacific. She did a heck of a job at the Naval Battle for Guadalcanal in Nov. 1942.

The Washington is indeed a hero ship and has never gotten the accolades and recognition she justly deserves. It would be great if the History channel did a program on her. Her exploits at Savo were extraordinary. Admiral Lee made great use of surface radar. My father, Seaman First Class Fernie A Walton was in turret "C" right gun room on that night. I was often thrilled by his stories of the Mighty Washington. For those that are interested check out usswashington.com
