Pearl Harbor, the MIchael Bay version had the two women running around like chickens without heads. There are always t.v shows and movies that portrey women as dumbies especially in war and in trouble.

Dear CN, I am sorry you only noticed the female victims of Pearl Harbor behaving irrationally. Lots of the men were behaving irrationally too in the attack sequences. There is a tendency to portray women as foolish and weak in some stories. Titanic is another one, for every fainting violet, there should be a Molly Brown. TH P.S. If you would like to read about some strong women from the WW 2 period come on over to the WW 2 forum.

chicken nugget I agree. I most serious movies not just war movies. The women are portrayed in a way that makes them look stupid. It makes wome look like they have no meaningful role in the incident.

Dear OS, I would direct you to sitcoms such as the Golden Girls, Friends, and Roseanne; the men come off no better than the women and often are made to look stupid where the lead characters are women. It is all too common a plot device to make the group is who is the focus of a play/story look good at the expense of the group which might be getting in their way( Saved by the Bell; the teachers are made to look like idiots to make the kids seem smarter). ironically, I must tell you that "dummies" is the correct spelling. Meanwhile, I'm glad to say that not that many films come to mind depicting women in a bad light in war. I think of stories like Mrs. Miniver when I think of women in war. One female role comes to mind from Gregory Peck's early film Days Of Glory. The female was a dancer/artist who was annoying in her inability to adapt to the awful circumstance, but that was the crux of the story - turning her into a solid war agent. Portraying women as strong in wartime seems to be one thing Hollywood has gotten right (from my perspective) -- historical adventurer

Yes, Trackhead. Gregory Peck was a spring chicken. They're all hidden in a bunker underground most of the time. I hated the gal most of the movie for being too ethereal, but then she rises to the occasion. -- historical adventurer
