Am I the Only One Getting Tired of this Channel?

I loved History International when it first came on my cable. I spent hours enthralled with the programs they had on. But I find myself watching it less and less now. I am basically disappointed in the direction they are taking. When it first came on my cable, I immediately discovered Time Team and fell in love with it. Programs about history don't get any more entertaining or educational than that. It was genuine archeology. And, really, how much could it have cost? Certainly not that much. But HI yanked it. They didn't give a reason, but we were immediately subjected to that idiot who calls himself an archeologist but is really nothing more than a Biblical gadfly. There is virtually no genuine archeology in The Naked Arecheologist. Weren't there room for these two shows to coexist? Apparently not at HI. I think the reason for this is very clear. HI has never met a Judeo-Christian show that it can resist. This channel is turning into the Regilous Internation Channel. Because that is almost all we are getting these days, and I find it very boring. If it is not religion, we are being "treated" to daily programs about cars/trains and China. Religion, cars/trains, and China are all this channel seems interested in these days. I find myself watching it less and less. BTW, for anybody who does miss Time Team, learn about bitTorrents. I get every episode that way. They are far more entertaining and educational than the puerile garbage that is coming out of HI these days. I am far more sad than angry about this, but HI, you are failing a lot of people who are genuinely interested in history of all kinds and not just your narrow view of it.

Today is my first day really settling down to watch HI, and I learned a few things.

Hello Akat, I am in "Agreement" with your evaluation of the History International" personal "Agenda(s)" and find it "Business as Usual" for the just barely thinking public. If you think back, when you were young, I bet you can remember all the "Religious" Propaganda that was shoved down your throat and forced to swallow. ANY History (from any Nation) should "NOT" "Glorify "Any" type of "CULT" religion or so called "Created" faith. It just "Isn't" real, that is unless your one of the Clergies that is "Still" selling that Tremendous LIE to the Brainless Zombies who still follow and "OBEY" . History is what we "Have" become at this stage of our "Evolution" and it has not been "Preordained" to happen this way by "ANY" idiot professing to be some "Holier Than Thou" crap that is still feed to you know who, including the History International Channel staffers who "Pollute" us with "IT". I hope you check you Posts occasionally? RFJ1

I love HI, but I agree they need a better variety of programming. Alot of the shows are a bit dated. The religious thing doesn't both me because regardless if you are a religious person or not, it has played a very important part in the development of all civilizations. As a result, the poster who said that history should be a discussion free of religion isn't very well informed about the topic. Just because you don't believe in it doesn't make it not true and it doesn't make it not pertinent to a historical discussion.

I don't like where HI is going either. Perhaps they've taken a supposed western religious route. But, there wasn't a single episode on the Maccebees during Chanukah. What's up with that? There's too much about Christianity, WWII, and the history of cheese. I have yet to watch anything more about scientific expeditions without the bias. Maybe they should make another channel: History Religion. And HI should be only that. But what the hell do any of us viewers think?

Has anyone compared the programing of History International with the original History Channel? I do not have the channel however every time I see what is on that channel it is always a step above what ever is on the history channel. I can not believe that UFOs have anything to do with history. I refuse to believe it.

I use to like HI alot better as well. They seemed to have better show and more of them. I understand that war is part of our history but it seems like every other show has to do with WAR. As for The Naked Archaeologist, I love that show. I have learned about the bible all my life but the way he links it to archaeology brings everything to life. It makes the bible very really and alive for me. He jokes and has fun and that is wonderful. I do wish they would have more show without a war theme on both history channels.

I understand why there is so much military history programs since they contain drama, suspense, and action. I wish they had more docudramas like the new Warrior programs on the Military Channel, or put a new spin on old themes. I understand that WWII was a popular war, but there's too many documentaries on the period. I'd like to watch the other little known, yet crucial battles in history. I do admit that every other show is about war. We need more variety and a fresh perspective overall. As for UFOs, well it looks more like the history of our phenomenon with them than anything else. I'd like to see history more tangible though.

not tired, but... why so many errors? for instance, tonight, on 'the five points gangs' they referrred to police lieutenant charles becker, yet showed a caricature of boss tweeds thumb with new york under it... then, while referring to gangster paul kelly (born paolo vaccarelli) they showed a photo of paul kelly (1899-1956) the actor... come on guys... get it together...

I am right there with you. I was just watching "ancient almanac" and they're doing what's essentially a biography of satan (lucifer, beelzebub, the morning star, however you prefer). it completely blows my mind that they don't offer any gnostic, apocryphal, or really any views controversial to those of the catholic church. the people they have speaking on this program have PhD's for god's sake, and i haven't heard one person give any accounts of things from lucifer's perspective. let's take the story of jobe, for instance. satan and god make a wager on whether this poor bastard will still worship god if his life is ruined. now, god did not have to take that bet. it could be argued that god is either uncaring and unkind, or just retardedly gullible. to hear satan's proposition and say "oh yeah? i'll show you who's faithful! i will ruin this man!" is just so remarkably petty. it doesn't reflect well on the idea of a wise, benevolent god. and yet the only experts they have hear just point to that example of satan "exacting his revenge on humanity". and the garden of eden story! the snake offers adam and eve the choice to either blindly follow orders from on high, or to be able to think for themselves. now, i'll admit that being able to think about things makes them much more painful (less idyllic, less like eden perhaps?), i'd much rather be able to think for myself than to be blind and blissful. but to these people, it's just satan's first blow against the human race. you can tell i needed to vent, because i actually went to the internet to complain. i haven't posted anything on any forum in years . thanks, internet, for accepting my anger.

I agree that HI has become a propaganda media for christianity and is trying to call it history. HI is doing a great disservice to everyone by trying to portray the fairytales that were collected and made into the bible as true history. Religious beliefs are a part of history but is not history. Christianity is no more relevant to history then any other religious beliefs throughout history. The naked archeologist show is a horrible show, should not be portrayed as true and should be removed. I have never been able to stomach a full episode. .

It is a great show and presents the connections between Biblical and Talmudic accounts with the evidence of archeology. Simcha Jacobovici is the best thing that's happened to History International. http://www.simchaj.ca/blog/AboutSimcha

Let's keep things professional here. I am not a Christian, but let's save the bashing for another forum please. Although, I suspect whether evangelists are funding HI in some way, or otherwise influence the programs. At any rate, there may have been points in history where those of different faiths actually supported one another. There is little about say Asian history, there's little of a "global" feel to an "international" channel. It seems to cater much to Westerners. Asian culture was very advanced during say, the Dark Ages of Europe. What HI asks little about: "Where do we come from? Why are we here?" Nor, religion aside, do we watch enough programs of less famous, relatively unknown people who made a contribution to history. What about them, the underdogs? HI looks more like People Magazine in terms of history. I could learn more from archeology magazines than HI since they report the latest discoveries without the overabundance of eye candy. HI programs are too flashy with recycled scenes from other shows. I have found much of their programs rather irritating lately.

I am okay with the Naked Archaelogist, and right now I'm watching Rommel but my issue with HI is the commercials. If I see another commercial regarding mesothelioma I think I'll go nuts or any of the self promotional commercials, specifically the ones for the Naked Archaeologist (a show I enjoy).
