Even though II've had some pretty cool rail experiences I never peed myself or did any other asinine foamer stunts. This in fact is the reason I was allowed to have the experiences in the first place. Foamer behavior ruins reputations and it is impossible to repair the damage.

Look folks here is a news flash for you, foamers are regarded as a joke and annoyance to those of us in the industry. While I enjoy the show, and really think that each episode should be longer to enable the show to be more indepth, the overall tone is way over the top. Come on out and work for a class 1 for a while, you will see that in all reality it is a fairly tedious existence.

My 7 year old son loves Matt Bown. I actually logged on to see if there was an address so my son could send the letter he has written to him. I believe the purpose of this show is to cater to all and to try and extend the excitement you all have into the younger crowd. I believe it was designed to be trendy and not just informational. It has captured my son's interest as well as his friends which I am sure you all think is a good thing. Because of this show, we are bringing our son and his friends to some train shows around our area. He has developed a passion for trains that I hope continues on - as it is a great thing to "fall in love with." We do not have as much knowledge as you all in fact checking, etc. but I am very grateful to the History Channel for starting this show and to Matt Bown. As a public speaker, I know that your audience will only get as excited as you are.

I would also like to add that although I enjoy the show, and I don't mind Matt as a host, I HATE the quick cuts and closeups. Could we see any given image for more than one second, please? And could you back away from some of the closeups to give some perspective, please? Just SLOW DOWN!! Thank you

I agree that Matt is a bit hyper - he does resemble a kid in a candy store. As just a railfan, I feel that the show does do the over-the-top MTV-style cuts and the train crews clearly appear to think Matt is out of his element there. I don't want to see Matt go - he has great potential if History does a second season - just turn his intensity down! I was disappointed to see just eight episodes rather than the usual 13 - 26. There are a lot more things for Matt to cover, including the Broadway Limited vs. 20th Century Limited war between New York & Chicago that raged for nearly 70 years, the Milwaukee Road's Hiawatha ("Slow to 90" on curves) and other grand trains of historic lore including the Santa Fe's Super Chief. Also, he could cover the grand palaces of railroading such as Grand Central Terminal and the old Penn Station in NYC, as well as my own Philadelphia's 30th Street Station, built in 1930 by the Pennsylvania Railroad. Inside 30th Street Station, there is a statue of the archangel Michael lifting a fallen soldier. On its base, there are 1,307 names of the Pennsylvania Railroad men and women that gave the ultimate sacrifice during World War 2. He could even cover ordinary trains such as SEPTA's Regional Rail lines, various commuter trains as well as subway/elevated trains in NYC, Philly, San Francisco and Chicago. I don't consider myself a "foamer" - I'm not out every weekend chasing trains and doing unsafe stuff around railroads - I just watch trains when I get a chance - however, I do have a PA "Preserve Our Heritage" license plate (better known as a "railroad" plate) on my car.

Hooray for Matt, his enthusiasm and antics! The teacher that taught me the most in school was the teacher that made learning fun and caught my attention. Learning doesn't have to be painful or stilted. For those who are train enthusiasts maybe you already know all you feel the need to know about trains and should change the channel so the rest of us can continue to enjoy the journey. Sounds like sour grapes to me! Matt's enthusiasm is refreshing and sure gets people's attention! Go Matt, good for you!

I don't want Matt to go away but the way THC is instructing him to behave is bad for the reputation of my hobby and turning the channel won't help with that. A good technical advisor would also insure that the public actually learns something.

Where did they find this arm-waving clown of a host? As others have written Extreme Trains is sadly typical of the dumbed down content of the HC for the past few years.

Read the post again genius, they are saying that they are NOT out doing unsafe things around the railway. It still just boggles my mind that anyone would want to be out chasing these rolling heaps in the first place. I cannot tell you how many times I have had people out chasing my trains down the mountain, and the leader was some old SP AC4400 of the 200 and 300 number series that had the big armour yellow blotch on the side with the new uncle pete number on it. Or even better the good ol wore out CNW AC44, at least we can put on a little show for the folks when we throttle up and blow a good five to six foot flame out of the exhaust.

Hey I know that some people don't like Mat Bown. He has some corny lines but at least there is a show about trains. There can some good info. on the show. History channel is trying to make the show for all kinds of people so the show gets watched. With a more intense host nobody but railfans would watch and they would shut the show down. I think Mat Bown is right for the show.

I have known Matt since we were children and he has always been an enthusiastic railfan. I am glad he has been given the chance to make so many of his dreams come true. It is very strange seeing someone I know as a friend on television, so please remember he is an every day railworker and man who has been given the opportunity of a lifetime. I am not a railfan, but I do enjoy the show. Also my children have been watching the show and enjoy it. So if the history channel was aiming for a larger audience than railfans, I think they met their goal. From the comments I have read, it seems there has been something about the show that everyone likes and parts they do not like. I think that is the making of a lasting show. It pleases everyone just enough to keep them watching and commenting. What better publicity!!!

Hey man. What is your problem? Matt Bown is a great host. Ever here "change the channel if you don't like what you see or hear"? Go play with all the other 46 year old grown ups acting like little kids with there train toys. A true lover of trains like Matt is actually out there doing what he loves rather than hanging around "train groups and meetings" where you can match wits with others of your superior knowledge of trains! All you people that agree with this guy, get a life. There are many railfans that are younger than you and I suspect that it is the arrogance of people like you that turn many people away from such a fun and exciting hobby. The key word is hobby. Why take yourself so seriously? Because you know how many more stanchions there are on an SD40-2 than on a GP-38 you are qualified to cast the host of a train show on TV. Next time I am at the mall, I look for you at the comic book shop arguing with the trekkies about whose hobby is cooler. "Worf the alien guy look a like" versus the "train groups and meetings guy", really cool! I bet the chicks would be knocking your door down to here you treatice on steam vs. coal. Everyone loves a 46 year train know it all. Matt, me and my family love Extreme Trains. My son loves coal trains and transcontinental trains. I have heard him say, "I love this guy" many times. Please keep doing things they way you have been. Your show is inspiring to young people that share your love of trains. You come acroos as honest, genuine and humble. Your lack of a pretensious know it all attitude is what makes you such a great host for Extreme Trains.

I love trains so I will not change the channel, but the host is very annoying, we watch it at work(I have a job that I can do this) and everyone in the room starts doing his animated over done movements. It sometimes is painful to watch him. He does a good job explaining things, but he has to tone it down a bit.(he should take some lessons from Mike Rowe on how to host a television show). I don't want to see him go, because then they might cancel the show, and he seems like a nice guy, but try to sculpt him into a better host. He has to realize at 10pm his audience is mostly older viewers who love trains, not a 5th grade classroom. That is only my critique of the show, over animated Matt or not I will still watch the show until they cancel it.

But see he needs to go, so this show can be canceled, as it has nothing to do with history. You people do not seem to get it.
