Jan 29, 2009 8:11 PM
Extreme Trains will not be returning for a second season.
Great news for everyone that hated the show.
A sad day for everyone who loves it.

Huh, guess there is no joy for Mr. Matt.

Oh well, I guess that if he wants to ride the "big trains" he will just have to hire out with the class ones. Too bad they are s-canning thousands of my brothers and sisters, while they are working the rest of us to the point of dangerous exhaustion.

Come on July 18th, and the rail safety bill. B-)

Are you kidding? There's only ONE thing that determines success in today's world: M O N E Y ! Obviously the market share wasn't high enough to attract as many advertiser's as they would have liked.

I wish MB the best, perhaps his band will propel him to stardom!

Appearently you all hate the show. Then why do you watch it? You complain and complain how bad it is. Come on, don't over exaggerate. Who said the show is cancelled. What do you know about the show, you hate it. Anyway there are fans out their and this is one of them.

First "Tracks Ahead" on PBS now "Extreme Trains". As a rail buff I enjoyed these shows more then a lot of TV trash like reality shows. But its about MONEY and sponsorship verses entertainment and education.

Maybe it's not the show- maybe it's the channel ?
Maybe if EXTREME TRAINS wasn't on NON-HISTORY- maybe it would do better ? Maybe a channel like Nick, ABCfamily- just a thought.

I liked the show, just not the way it was portrayed with "overzealous" Matt as the host. And agree with you aboiut it should have been on a different channel!

With that said, keeping Matt as the host "in my opinion" WOULD have fared better and probably gotten more than one season too, if it would have been on another channel such as Nickolodeon, Fox Family, ABC Family, A&E or a host of other channels more dedicated to children, as for the adult aspect of the show, it just wasn't there with the way they "puppetted" Matt to be so overly excited and what I'd consider a liability a.k.a. dangerous around trains and their crews!

If they want to target an adult audience, then they need to add MORE HISTORICAL FACTS about the railroads, yes, I like the modern railroads and enjoy watching as well as videoing them myself. but I'd also like to know more about the history of where the railroads initially came from, how they ended up being swallowed by larger, more aggressive railroads and how/what changes and improvements as a side by side comparison from "the old days of railroading" to the modern era and how these transitions affected operations of the railroad, employees of these railroads and so forth.

Then and only then would this show have earned a higher respect and a spot on the History Channel, as it is and was, the show was more catered to both children and adults with ADDD or some type of autism since they consistantly had Matt repeat the same things over and over, which I found totally boring.

If the show was truly cancelled, I hate to see it go out like this, but I feel if the producers and others involved in its making had done more of the above (historical reference) and better research of facts about trains, their operations, etc., and had not had an overzealous host (which came to look like an obnoxious idiot), the show could have made it and been a boon to the railroads as well as many of the fans of both current and now long, abandoned, but not forgotten railroads, such as Great Northern (GN), Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O), Louisville & Nashville (L&N), Seaboard Coast Line (SCL) and many others.

If it isn't, it isn't showing up on my cable guide on
the History channels line up. I'd have to look, but
last time there was something else listed on the History
channels line up for 10pm Tuesdays.

Just checked, Tuesday 10pm is "Life After People", no Extreme Trains to be found anywhere on Tuesdays now.

And I just checked on Monday 6/22/2009 by scrolling through the Cable Guide of what's on all the channels.

I used the find a show and, once again, NO EXTREME TRAINS could be found anywhere.

That tells me the show IS CANCELLED and GONE!

It is the history channel... not the reality channel. Extreme Trains at least would involve some railroad history in the episodes. This was one of the few HC shows I would watch. Another was Jurassic Fight Club was an interesting approach to paleontology, too. Modern Marvels is still a fav. Gangland.... well, what is that teaching us about history? I like the show, mind you, but does it belong on History? Obviously, the almighty dollar is what tv focuses on, and this must be why there are shows like Gangland and Ice Road Truckers.

So from what I am reading we have no real clue if the show is really canceled or not?

If you read the website it does make mention that every Tuesday there is a new episode, however the show aired mid season. Hence there were only 8 episodes versus a normal full length season. It seems to me the website was left the way it was till either a new season begins or it is canceled.

I think we all need to wait till at least Sept. before we make a decision we have no direct information on.
