The Auto Train would be perfect for a new episode, there's just so much cool stuff going on with that operation.

My thoughts exactly. Superliner cars and auto carriers on the same train. I enjoyed driving to Lorton to watch the loading and boarding. It was more unique when it ran with Heritage fleet cars with domes.

There was so much left that could of been covered in the show like the Auto Train Corp and it's short existence. A brief history of the U36B would of been nice also. So much for history on the history channel. They only like history shows that bring in the ads.

I have lived in northern New England my whole life and hae never seen an auto train. I would love to see the whole operation from plant (or ship) to auto storeage lot. That is a great idea.

The Auto Train in this thread is an Amtrak passenger train which has autorack cars in its consist so that passengers can travel from Virginia to Florida and have their own cars available at their destination. Auto Train has a VERY interesting history.

I video thise train and it's facilities quite often. I only live a few miles from the Florida originating point in Sanford, Florida. They are working on a new facility that will improve their services quite a bit, it's about 2 miles from their present location and of course before Amtrak got the Auto-Train, it was dead on the tracks for a little while, originally the loco's were purple and some other colors, don't recall off hand at the moment, but they were a lot prettier and the entire train was more colorful than the boring red/blue stripes and silver rolling stock of Amtrak.

Also got video of then driving the vehicles into the autoracks, one day they had a boo-boo! Guy drove a car too fast into the unit and shoved the lead car out the other end of the autorack! And of course that's the one time my dang camera battery opted to go dead and the two spares were also depleted from all the videoing I had been doing along the line earlier in they day catching CSX freights, Amtrak standard passenger service and some interesting MoW trains. Sure wish I could have caught that car flopping out the other end of the train, it was hilarious and not so funny at the same time. I'm sure the driver of the car lost his job after that mishap!
