Is the Dogfights: Game dissapointing??

I really hate to have to post this honest because I understand how much was put into this game. But I cant' help but be overwhelmed with complete dissapointment. I mean I know it's free, but coming from the people who make the brilliant show Dogfigthts I couldn't believe it. *I have to get this off my mind, and honestly I really thought you guys would make something to compare with "Aces High 2" or maybe "IL-2 Sturmovik" IF YOU GUYS ARE NOT SERIOUS ABOUT THIS ""GAME"" THING THEN....WELL..I'M DISSAPOINTED, BUT IF YOU'RE JUST WAITING FOR MORE IDEAS OR IN THE THOUGHT PROCESS FOR A NEW GAME THE FORGET EVERYTHING I SAID AND DO YOU DOGFIGHTS THING =D RIGHT ON!!!!!!!!!!!

I am basing this thoughts and suggestions off of the trailer of the current dogfights:game with ideas to change in the questionable future DOGFIGHTS GAME. -Have joystick compatibilty -be able to be inside the cockpit -AND FOR SOME GOOD IDEAS PLAY AS MANY OTHER FLIGHT COMBAT SIMS AS YOU NEED *I think you did that already a tad though* REALLY I LOVE DOGFIGHTS AND YOU GUYS ARE GODS AT YOUR THING. I LOVE PLANES AND EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM I EVEN FLY R/C PLANES.....BUT I HAVE FULL CONFIDENCE THAT IF YOU GUYS TRIED AND DEDICATED TO THIS GAME...- *THEN THE WHOLE WORLD WOULD SEE A NEW MEANING OF "FREEKIN' AWESOME AIRWAR GAME" YOU CAN DOOOO ITTT

In defense of the History Channel, I don't think anyone should expect much more than an arcade game as a freebie.

actually I think its a great game.... but then again I'm bad at flight sims :-P. Oh, and if you look closer, it is joystick compadible (although I'm having difficulty figuring out when the joystick is enabled I can't control the rudder. Probably overlooking something obvious.)

If they get in with the right game engine, they can use the game to make the series action videos. This could spawn user videos as well which could help the sim/show greatly and increase player and viewer base............especialy with the advent of youtube.

I downloaded it and looked at it briefly; an arcade number uninteresting to a flight-sim fan. The development of a good flight-sim game is a difficult process that involves a lot of work. There are only a few that could be called good, if your standard is realism. There are dozens of arcade-type flying games around.

Hi, I'm MrDoomBringer, and I've got some experience here. While I haven't played as many Flight sims in relation to other games, I have had some experience I'm going to immediately start assuming here, as I'm working on low amounts of information. Earlier today I downloaded the game. First thing that I saw was that it was distributed over a game delivery system chock full of ads. While this was slightly disappointing, I remembered that it was indeed a free game, so I didn't mind. Installing the game was nice and quick (High-speed internet for the win!) and I was happy that a game with that much detail could be downloaded that easily. Upon starting the game, I had to laugh, the game is based off of Valve's Source Engine, a physics engine from which I have had much experience. Some of you may know the engine from the popular games Half Life 2, Counter Strike: Source, and others. I quickly jumped into the options and set my resolution way higher. It also helps, I've found, to run a Source game in Windowed mode. Once set up for my video and audio, I clicked over to the keyboard tab, and found to my dismay a very short list. I re-set the controls to use my Joystick and headed for Training. There wasn't much training to be spoken of. I was immediately tossed into a battle with a very small and ill-descriptive HUD, a plane in front of me and my entire screen slowly rotating to the left. I tried to move the rudder with the keyboard commands to no avail, I banked to the right and down with the joystick and tried to get a sense of what was going on, what with the relatively massive explosions and random plane sounds all around me. After smashing into the ground a few times I got the hang of the controls; but no matter what I did, I still kept slightly rotating to the left with unresponsive rudder controls. I could not aim at all, for the screen would always move to the left away from the target. I found the graphics to be of very good quality, but the total lack of a proper HUD and unusable controls just made the game unplayable. I'm not saying that I don't like the idea behind this game, and that I don't respect the work that went into this. To make a game that uses the Source engine outside of Steam is something to marvel at. I know this from firsthand experience trying to create a modification for Half-Life 2. However, the execution of this was not as much as I'd expect from a company, nor something I'd expect from a company at work on this for a year. If my controls were working properly, I'm sure this would make a fine game. Other games, such as Eternal Silence (http://www.eternal-silence.net/) Has a much better execution of a flight system, with much better controls for flight. Dogfights, the show, is excellent. It makes for a very good visual. Dogfights, as a game, would be excellent. It would be an awesome experience, flight a plane in multiplayer, shooting at each other. The creation of a game from the TV show proved to be quite disappointing. Still, the possibilities remain. It is, after all, a Source-based game. If the game could be re-distributed of the Steam network (Valve's Game Delivery system, http://www.steampowered.com) then it could be better integrated into Source, and it would make it easier to produce the game. Just my 2/100ths of a dollar. I've worked with many Source games, and I play them often. If anyone else here has a Steam account, you can normally reach me over the Friends network. My account name is "triggerhappy521", if you want to add me to friends. This post got a lot longer than I expected.

Oh gawd, yes! "Dogfights: The Game" is very poor! Also, I can't believe THC hired Kuma games to produce this piece of junky code. If they did a search they would have seen that Kuma makes rather poor/low quality computer games. Perhaps THC didn't want to spend additional funding to base DTG on a better engine, such as but not limited to, Aces High, European Air War, IL-2 series, etc. -- Edited by member6 at 10/30/2007 7:33 AM
