Your episode on Angkor Wat, presented that the lingas lining the river bed as symbols of phallic origin. Their purpose to imbue the water with blessings of fertility. Hindu symbolism is little understood as the origins of that culture are somewhat shrouded in time. The subject of the lingam is an especially controversial topic and there is much debate surrounding its meaning. Many hindu priests do not agree with the western interpretation. As such, regardless of who is right, to present it as factual on a nationally aired respectable program is a gross distortion of that culture. and such distortions instill in the viewer's mind a certain distrust of your program in general. After all, how do we then know the rest of your programs are any more faithful to their presentation of facts than this? With regards to the river bed in particular, I would encourage scholars to seek more logical explanations. The highly developed architecture, landscaping, and water-way planning would indicate a civilization of thinkers and builders that have moved beyond superstition. Perhaps the grooves in between the tightly packed lingams allow sediment in the water to settle down, trapping it and purifying the water somewhat before it flows into the waterways. thank you for taking the time to read this post.
