Josh Bernstein is a waste of time. He tends to blow everything out of proportion (ie:Atlantis). He Doesn't Seem Very knowledgable about any of the show topics and basically believes anything anyone tells him. so do us all a favor and fire him and get back to the TRUE FACTS of history.

Josh purposely doesn't voice his personal opinion about the various theories regarding each topic because he doesn't view it has HIS show, he is just a host, and therefore his personal views are of no consequence.
Without trying to minimize Josh's role and importance to the show, he doesn't really have any control about what the production company does regarding who they chose to have on the show and what they have to say. Josh pretty much goes where they tell him to go, and talks to whomever they tell him to talk to, even if he personally has issues with what is being said or discussed.
In that capacity, I think he is a fabulous host because he DOESN'T go around spouting his opinions about everything, he truly tries to get all sides, all information, all evidence and presents it to the viewers without bias, who then are free to make up their own minds.

Exactly, wickedgirl. Josh never says "this is the way it happened" or "mystery solved." He offers ideas and possible explanations.
That is why the show is called Digging for the Truth, not Discovering the Truth.

if you've seen the temple of doom episode, he calls the people brainwashers . that certainly qualifies as his opinion, dont you think? i mean this show has absolutely no relevance any more. its all speculation. just a bunch of what-ifs and maybes.

I think Pat Stephens's comments about Josh are ridiculous and miss the point of the show. DFT is not just for experienced archaeologists and anthropologists; it is mainly intended to educate those who have some knowledge of the topics and want to know what the evidence shows. The fact that Josh was not a professional archaeologist before the show helps the audience, who mostly are not professional archaeologists either, to relate to him. I think he does a great job of studying the topics before the show, but he also wants to keep an open mind and avoid embarrassing anyone whose theories seem hard to believe. He doesn't want to be pompous or a know it all, and he has limited influence over the topics and the experts that he interviews. However, the show tries to look clearly and honestly at the evidence. If the evidence for many of these things is inconclusive, that's certainly not Josh's fault; and Josh has never, and would never, compromise his professional integrity for the sake of ratings. I think it is clear that Josh is a brilliant man (he already has a degree in anthropology from Cornell) who might someday be a professional anthropologist and then be able to answer some of the questions posed by the show.

I think it was the experts on the show who called the people "brainwashers". Josh has to use that word, too, in order to discuss the material presented.
Of course much of it is speculation. They explore history's mysteries. They don't have anything but speculation and theory for much of their subject matter but they corroborate that with fact as much as they possibly can.

If YOU don't like the show don't watch it ! It's really that simple. I happen to love it and watch it every chance I get . If they fired Josh I would'nt watch it anymore , he brings all sides of the subject together and lets us make up our own minds.

Don't fire Josh. I enjoy his shows. He makes it easy for us to understand what is going on precisely because he is not being a "professor."
He is also quite athletic an enjoys testing himself with the same implements that were used in history.

At first I was of the the same thinking as Pat - I believed that Josh is a waste of time. But after reading the posts - I guess it really isn't his fault if I don't like the evidence that is included in the show and the results that are or are not reached. It is really the fault of the production company.
Realizing that only so many leads can be followed, it does bother me that I don't feel like all the leads are adequately pursued. The 2 that come to mind:
Atlantis - why not carbon date some of the rock that makes up the Bimini Road? Why stick to only the rock on shore? If that came back as only 4000 years old, I guess we could rule out an Atlantis outpost laying this rock 10 or 12 thousand years ago.
Da Vinci - I thought that the idea of a DNA testing of deceased Merovingian Kings was great! I couldn't understand why they would pick a Queen to test, who seems to me probably married into the bloodline and wasn't actually part of the bloodline. If she was part of the bloodline, and somehow related to the King that she married, I missed it. So obviously she won't have any of the middle eastern DNA markings.
I guess I have a problem with the fact that the show seems to have awesome ideas but I don't really like the way they follow through with their investigations.
And I don't plan on watching the show anymore. I love the topics, but I just get all heated up when they, in my humble opinion, fail to really do due diligence.
I guess since I'm ranting - it also bothers me that more of the show than necessary is spent with Josh "look at me ride a horse" "look at me scale this cliff". I guess I just want the facts, not the extra background crap. And I'm sure that plety of people out there will disagree with me. That's fine. I hope the show continues to be a success.
One other thing, it also bugged me that I had already seen a lot of the Atlantis season opener on a previous Atlantis special on the History Channel. They couldn't get there own material?
I'll shut up now - but I also will stop watching the show.

One of the things that I love about this show is Josh. He isn't one of those guys who thinks he know it all. He isn't afraid to ask questions or to get his hands dirty. He get right in there and tries things to see how it feels. If he was one of those guys who never let the expert speak, but spoke for them, I would hate this show. He seems very down to earth. He isn't an expert, and I think that's what makes him appealing. He is just an average guy who is curious about history, and not afraid to get out there to see what he can find.

I agree- the guy is annoying! I like the subject matter of the show so I watch it, but have a hard time watching and listening to Josh. I always have to weigh my interest in the subject against my disgust with him. He reminds me of what we used to call in college a "face man"- a guy with no other purpose than to attract chicks. He has no acedemic credentials for most of the subjects he "covers"- he just tries to make doing what he's told look dangerous and/or exciting. Sometimes you can actually see the real experts snickering in the background. They should do a show on the guy who spray paints his hat (obviously new) and sands that idiotic bag on his shoulder (has anyone ever seen him open it?) I bet he has his lunch in there...
