Following a testy exchange during today’s briefing with White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, veteran White House correspondent Helen Thomas told CNSNews.com that not even Richard Nixon tried to control the press the way President Obama is trying to control the press.
“Nixon didn’t try to do that,” Thomas said. “They couldn’t control (the media). They didn’t try.
“What the hell do they think we are, puppets?” Thomas said. “They’re supposed to stay out of our business. They are our public servants. We pay them.”
Thomas said she was especially concerned about the arrangement between the Obama Administration and a writer from the liberal Huffington Post Web site. The writer was invited by the White House to President Obama’s press conference last week on the understanding that he would ask Obama a question about Iran from among questions that had been sent to him by people in Iran.
“When you call the reporter the night before you know damn well what they are going to ask to control you,” Thomas said."

I would have to say that Obama doesn't care about what anyone thinks if he keeps the idiot Gibbs as his propaganda minister.

Reminds me of an old story about Marines guarding an airfield on Guadualcanal during WWII.
It seems there was a Japanese sniper that used to fire on the men when thy lined up for their evening meal.
A cherry 2LT, POed at having to duck and spilling his plate ordered the Gunny to send a squad to take out the sniper.
The Gunny respectfully refused and informed the shavetail that killing him was a terrible idea since he had yet to hit anyone." If we kill him", the Gunny said, the Japs might replace him with someone who knows how to shoot."

Helen Thomas is a disgraceful bat with a chip on her shoulder and nothing between her ears...
Sorry, for a second or two I was channeling Mr C.'s edifying style of zero content. Where is something I can cut and paste...?
Seriously, Gibbs should handle Helen with Kid Gloves, she is an icon. On this she is basically saying that the Obama Administration is doing what it can to get good coverage and massage the press. Not exactly a newsflash in my opinion. But Helen can grump all she wants, she has earned it. Don't agree with her on this one at all.
The Huffington Post is a question mark. It is clearly a left leaning blog. It would have been nice if the Iranian question had come from an Iranian-American blogger perhaps, although I suppose they too would have an agenda.
Still, the idea Iranians can ask Obama questions is really great. He should do more of tat sort of thing, taking questions from regular people abroad. Maybe a whole press conference on it. I like that.

My Fellow Americans,
Female press corps members, no matter their age, are putty in my experienced, professional hands.
Helen, bless her heart, is feeling neglected. (sigh)
I will let her stew in her insecurities for a few days, then give her some "special attention" and perhaps a well-timed wink, and she'll be worshiping me again like a love-struck teenager.
Watch - You'll see. I'm an expert in these matters.
