Re: Politics Is A Slash And Burn Business

I honestly believe that she was selected to be McCain's running mate, as a cheap ploy to get the women's vote, after Hillary lost the primary. I wasn't enthralled with her then. She didn't show herself to be ready for the limelight. That being said, she got a raw deal from the media, and the Dems. They got a free pass for taking shots at her regularly. The smarter members of the GOP realize that she was more like a "novelty", rather than a serious candidate. So they have been quick to get separation from her. She has a lot of work to do if she wants to run for President. I would be surprised if she were to win the GOP primary, because I think she has almost NO chance of winning a national election in 2012. Best she can do is hit the speaking circuit, and try to help to build GOP support. Otherwise, she will just go down in flames again. "Denial is a great place. I've heard the summers are nice there."

I'm thinking she will soon have a radio show or? Listen to her speech, she states that she wants to be political voice, but not necessarily from a elected office. -- Land of the Free, Because of the Brave. There's never a right time to be in the wrong place" jasser

I don't know why she got out, but one possibility is she realized she's in over her head. She may be intelligent, she may have natural ability, but she's never bothered to develop it. She'd never be able to have an in depth understanding of political issues - she's spent too much time avoid understanding. -- "We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty" - Edward R. Murrow

That's a response that exhibits a typical lack of class and intellectual ability from those who have participated in the feeding frenzy on Palin and her family. -- [Sarah Palin is] the object of the cultural disdain of a Left that loves the working class in theory, but is mystified or offended by its lifestyle and conservative values in reality. If there's ever been an exemplar of the rural America that, in Barack Obama's telling, bitterly clings to its guns and religion, it's Sarah Palin.."---Rich Lowry www.juvenalblog.blogspot.com

She simply isn't ready politically right now. In addition, she has "too many irons in the fire" right now in her personal life. Perhaps down the road, she could be a legitimate contender. But not in the near future by my view. She basically needs a "time out" politically for a while. That way she can deal with all of her personal and family issues. This would also give her time to decide if she is really up for the challenge, because now she has some idea of the scrutiny she would be under. Time will tell. "Denial is a great place. You really think she's fare well in a world where you've really got to be conversant on many issues????? She's too far behind. I bet she's read less than 100 books in her life. -- "We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty" - Edward R. Murrow

When did you become so intimate with Palin that you know how many books she has read? Look, she was way in over her head as a VP. Why can't you keep your punches above the belt? You have no idea what she reads, how many books she may have read and to make that a issue reflects poorly on you and make you appear a nipping heel biter. -- Land of the Free, Because of the Brave. It is easier for people to crawl into the gutters, and take shots at her from there. Perhaps that is where some people are more comfortable. I thought she was over her head as well. Her nomination looked to me like a cheap ploy by the GOP to get angry Hillary supporters to support McCain. To nobody's surprise, it didn't work. But I have been amazed at the level of hate directed at this woman. I think the Anti-Christ would get better press than Palin did. You can tell a great deal about a person's character by the way they stoop to slander and gutter tactics to trash people they don't agree with. But character isn't a strong trait with many people on this board. "Denial is a great place. I've heard the summers are nice there."

Politics Is A Business Where It's All About Whom You Know

Everybody on this board - on Both sides - knows that you can't get elected dog catcher unless you know Somebody; either somebody who owes you favors, or somebody who is willing to wait until you are in ofice to collect. Although I don't know Palin personally (and neither does anybody else here) I have a hunch that she has lived the life of a beautiful woman - which means that she has gotten by a lot of the time on her looks. Totally Not her fault; when you're a beautiful woman people just do things for you and give you things, and most of them don't even Listen when you talk. They aren't the least bit interested in your mind. So, even though she's a very intelligent woman ( I Do believe that) she has never had to use it. Does Anybody really think that a 300 pound 60 year old woman would have been elected to be the mayor of any town, no matter What her ideas were? Even if by some miracle she did (name me one) would she have been Asked by anybody to run for Governor, and would anybody have voted for her? Politics is about Image, and she has the Perfect image. But you have to have something Behind that image. The Repubicans picked her for her image - and weren't the Least bit interested in whether or not there was anything behind it. If they were Serious about her they would have groomed her. Given her a list of reading to be done, Talked to her about the issues of the day, and explained them to her in depth. They would Never have turned her loose with the likes of Katie Couric Without a complete course in everythig she was likely to be asked. But she was Never a serious contender for anything, in their eyes. She was a show horse, picked for exactly what she delivered; a gorgeous woman who would pull women and charm men. She gave them what they wanted in Spades. But She thought that she was picked because they were serious about her, and, because looks and charm had always Been enough in her life, she had no way of knowing any different. She was Used terribly and, when it became obvious that she was being ravaged because of her lack of depth, They threw her under the bus in a mad scramble to save their own careers and protect John McCain - who Does have some quid pro quo owing to him. I don't know Who was so stupid about women that they thought they would just vote for Any woman, or so Cynical that they would let a perfectly nice woman be savaged like that - and the funny thing is that she Is smart; she Could Have been taught; she could have been groomed properly, if they had Ever stopped to think that she Might be able to pay them back one day. What has happened to her is a crying shame. Everybody she has dealt with - that I can see - has Used her for their own purposes; from the men and women who never asked anything but beauty from her because she could get them something they wanted, to the Good Old Boys in the GOP who shoved her into the national spotlight without even having the goodness to warn her that her beauty would be worthless and giving her the tools she needed to work with. Have the Democrats treated her shabbily? Of Course they have. Politics is a Rough Business. You put your head up and somebody on the other side Will shoot it off. I don't think the Dems have done anything that the Repbulicans wouldn't do, especially when public office is at stake. That's what they Do. Nobody has the right to expect the other side to be "gentlemanly" toward you when you are trying to take an office away from them. And then, still thinking that she was a "real" player I have no doubt, she Stayed there. The Republicans couldn't tell her to go away; they were through with her, because too many Conservatives Liked her. They're not about to antagonize the base. So, the Democrats just kept wailing away, as Both parties would do to anybody on the other side who might be a threat. I'm not excusing them here; sooner or later, it should have occurred to Somebody in power that the Republicans were through with her but couldn't make her go as long as she hung on, and Quit. I got to the point that I couln't watch it any more, and so, I think, did a lot of other people who had figured out what was happening. I haven't watched anything on Palin in months. I am Extremely Angry about what was done to that woman. I just hope that she understands What happened, Why it happened, and corrects it. Then, after she is knowledgable - as I have Every confidence that she can be - she writes a bunch of books, becomes the darling of the Media, and, when they come begging her to run for public office, tells them all to Go Pound Sand. Or, in another satisfying scenario, agrees to Run but makes everybody involved jump through hoops of Her making in order to get her to do it. That would be only fair; She jumped through Their hoops and gave them Everything they wanted from her in Spades. And she's the girl who can do it. I still won't vote for her because we are too different philosophically, but I will be right there to Cheer her on. -- "Is my enemy my Teacher?" - Old Arab Motto. "I don't belong to any Organized political party - I'm a Democrat." - Will Rogers
