Well, at last, we see two conservatives, Bret and Swordsman, express support for our troops in the most recent Afghanistan offensive. Thanks! The rest of the cons seem to want, at best, to ignore the troops and engage in partisan political bickering instead. -- "Facts Are Stupid Things" - Ronald Reagan

I doubt it is a Blow-torch and corkscrew type operation, at least where the towns and cities are concerned. I don't think that Obama wants another Fallujah with the international community leveling charges of Abuse, Brutality, and Genocidal intent. These Marines won't be allowed to dish it out like their forbears on Iwo, Pellileu, or Saipan.

I don't have to voice support for the troops. People know I support them. Not only with my voice, but through the USO, Disable Veterans and gift packages I have sent to my nephew and men in his outfit. -- Beam me up Scottie, no intelligent life down here.

You jump on the bandwagon to bash Bush and our troops, yelling that the war in Iraq is lost. But now that Obama is President, our troops are brave little soldiers. I really don’t care what you think. I’m not here to look for your approval. I guess you didn’t read my post. I am very concerned for the safety of our troops. Iraq was one thing. It was necessary and you expect to lose some. But in Afghanistan, the mission isn’t all that clear. Is it going to be like Vietnam? Send out a battalion to take a hill and after sacrificing much, return it to the enemy? Iraq was like clearing a hornet’s nest from the attic of your home. You withstand the stings to get rid of the danger. Afghanistan is going to be more like slapping the nest, sticking fire crackers in it and stirring up the nest without getting rid of it. Not smart.

The Marines will do the job, never fear. Semper Fi guys, I wish I could be there with you. I expect that this will be just the beginning. More troops will become involved, and the Army won't want to be left out, not f it looks like the Marines are winning! -- I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter...

A shame some people have to use the troops yet again to score political points, I am sure the troops are tired of it. I just hope Ed Schultz gets onto Armed Services radio again.

I wonder how many of those are strictly combat troops? Usually support troops (ie quartermaster, mechanics etc.) account for 40-50% of any listed number.

"I thought Obama was bringin em all home? " However you have shown repeatedly that you think a lot of weird things that are not the case..... Obama never said he was bringing the troops home from Afghanistan. You have a lot of opinions about him. It is a shame you have no facts to go beside them. -- "It's interesting to note that there was little or no media focus on the 9-11 terrorists during the Bush administration and therefore no public outrage." - Whitehall

They picked the Marines because they will do what they are told. This will most likely be a light hands operation, minimal heavy stuff unless they can push the bad guys out into the open.

Small arms is an M16 lying on the deck. Put that same M16 into the hands of a Marine and you have a heavy weapons expert.
