dr. abigail tyler?

Aug 31, 2009 5:01 PM
okay, so i saw district 9 (great movie) last night and saw a preview for "the fourth kind" a movie about a physchiatrist who supposedly exits and treated people in nome, alaska whom had been abducted. i have found no references to her being alive except movie sites.

is abigail tyler real? the movie previews that showed "archival footage" had her face blurred. so why would they tell us her real name?

is she completely fictitious or is it possible she asked her name to be changed for security or legal reasons?

i've heard shes made up and was based off of john mack, but then why lie about the therapy tapes?

does anybody know anything about this?

ive looked up the abduction cases and they seem real enough, but what about abigail tyler? did these therapy sessions exist? i

if so did she use hypnotic therapy to manipulate the mind to believe what she wanted for her own agenda? or were these events true (to some degree) as portrayed in the movie?

this takes place in nome, alaska from 1960's-2002.

any suggestions?

It's for a movie, not a documentary and should be taken as fiction.

exactly. i have no idea now. personally, i think it was a sham and she used hypno-therapy to manipulate them for her own gain career-wise otherwise she wouldn't have done a hollywood movie off of her experiences.

but what is abigail tylers name!?

Odd.
If you go to the root of the domain, there is no home page there.

I love movies that make you think, "Can this be really really?". But this movie is not one of them.
Really? Aliens? Come one.

""""Try Googling “Abigail Tyler” and “Alaska.” You’ll get a link to a convincingly boring Web site called the “Alaska Psychiatry Journal” — complete with a biography of a psychologist by that name who researched sleep behavior in Nome. Except the site is suspiciously vacant, mostly a collection of articles on sleep studies with no home page or contact information.

Another site, www.alaskanewsarchive.com, features a story from the Nome Nugget about Tyler moving to Nome for research. The problem? The story is credited to Nugget editor and publisher Nancy McGuire, who says it's baloney and she never wrote it.

Both the news site and the medical journal site were created just last month, according to domain-name research sites.

Ron Adler is CEO and director of the Alaska Psychiatric Institute. Denise Dillard is president of the Alaska Psychological Association. They said this week they’ve never heard of the Alaska Psychiatry Journal, or of Abigail Tyler."""" *Story comes from the Anchorage Daily News Website "

The FBI has been involved in these disappearances cases and have found no evidence of a serial killer nor "alien abduction". They eventually determining that excessive alcohol consumption and the winter climate were a common link in many of the cases.

All this supposed "archival footage" is a bunch of baloney! And so is this Abigail Tyler person. Don't believe 99.9% of the stuff that Hollywood is trying to make money from.

Here is the domain info. This smells of viral marketing for the movie.

Sorry to disappoint but these people are not real....well actually I'm sure there is a Dr. Abigail Tyler somewhere but I doubt she is doing sleep studies in Nome. First go to her "website" http://alaskapsychiatryjournal.org/entries/5-1995-Case-Study-Regression-Therapy.html
People have already pointed out that there is no homepage, mostly because the Alaska Psychiatry Journal does not exist. Second read the so called "case study" ask anyone who has even take a few college psychology classes and they will tell you this is not how a scholarly article is written, there are no citations at all. Also if you read it, it's like a freshman psych student is writing a research article, not a Doctors "case study". A really simple way to find out for sure if this person exists and if she ever publish any articles about sleep disorder in Nome is to find someone who goes to a major university and ask them to look her up in their schools online library. If she ever published anything in any journal of psychiatric medicine she should come up

haha so i watched the trailer, googled and found this forum..

just had to comment, gota say that "abigail tyler" could be real. I go to UAF and did what was suggested, looked for articles in the library related to this abigail tyler. I found an Abby Tyler in archives that had really similar research and had an article that was similar to http://alaskapsychiatryjournal.org/entries/6-1997-American-Journal-of-Psychiatry-Light-Exposure-Effects.html

but longer and more comprehensive. There was also her research on sleeping disorders. But her research is dated so I don't know how applicable it is with today's studies.

I should scan it and post it but don't think i can post images on this forum?

but just from my research as a psych student, there are tons of psychologists and researchers from the area who did similar studies, so I feel like the movie could be based off of anyone. who knows? any other evidence out there?

Universal Pictures has said it will release an alien abduction film this fall that plays off of decades of unexplained disappearances and deaths in this old Gold Rush town along the Bering Sea.

"The Fourth Kind" is being marketed as a "dramatization" of real events _ based on footage from a psychologist who stumbled upon "the most disturbing evidence of alien abduction ever documented" while interviewing traumatized people in Nome, a western Alaska town of 3,500.

But even if the movie is fiction, the vanishings are real.

After years of rumors that Nome had become a dangerous place for travelers from Inupiat and Siberian Yupik villages, local officials in 2005 released a list of the city's disappearances and deaths dating back to the 1960s.

The FBI decided to review two dozen cases, eventually determining that excessive alcohol consumption and the winter climate were a common link. Unlike other commercial hubs in rural Alaska, Nome is a "wet" city, with bars and liquor stores.

Some of the dead were killed by exposure or from falling off a jetty into the frigid Snake River, authorities said at the time.

Savoonga resident Delbert Pungowiyi, however, suspects racially motivated, serial killings are to blame in at least some of the deaths, including that of his uncle, who flew to Nome in 1998 to buy a snowmachine and never came home.

As for the new movie?

"Oh my God, that is ridiculous," he said
