Recived damage at Iron Bottom Sound and survived. The Washington got off easy. The battleship odds were in American favors. The Kurashima had no chance of a victory.

Well, I won't challenge that the South Dakota was a fine ship; seeing action from the Solomons to Big Jack Shafroth's bombardments of the Japanese Homeland in 1945. But, I also wouldn't say that the Washington got off easy. In fact, there seems to have been a little bad blood between the sailors of the two ships after the November 14th battle. Washington's gunnery in that fight was superb, while the SD's withdrawel from the fight is still somewhat controversial.

Well the only reasonBB57 with dwer from action is that it had to as a electrician tied down a circut breaker instead of just tripping it shorted out caused a complete electrical failure thru out ship it was on emergency power diesel gen just enuff for vital ship ability to steam it was a personell failure that caused that as no other ships in her class had that failure at any time the SO DAK class battleship was a outstanding class as was the NOrth Carolins class in all the new fast battleships were the best of the best the "IOWA'S went on in later wars to prove themselves again NUFF SAID BOBC -- For those that fought for it,Freedom has a taste and meaning, The protected will never know!
