Enterprise with yellow deck markings (video)

Since there have been several comments about the Enterprise's appearance in this series, I thought I should post a video that addresses the issue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ny-SZL50RJ8 This is a clip from the Warner Bros. film "Dive Bomber," released in 1941. Several scenes were shot onboard the Big E during production. The film offers a rare glimpse of the Enterprise in color as she appeared in 1940/early '41. As others have already mentioned, these markings disappeared before Pearl Harbor, and the deck had also been stained blue.

Thanks, xfigher! It never occurred to me to look on youtube for Enterprise video. And I wasn't aware that "Dive Bomber", or portions of it, were filmed aboard her. I'm always on the look out for video or photos of the Enterprise. I really appreciate you posting this.

You're very welcome. "Dive Bomber" is available on DVD, and it's a pretty good movie, especially if you're into naval aviation history. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033537/

During the time when the Enterprise was the only Carrier in the Pacific, my dad said that she was repainted quite a number of times including changing the number to "fool" the Japanese that there were more Carriers in the Pacific. They would allow themselves to be seen then get lost in a storm or fog. It worked, the Japanese records after the war showed that they thought there were 4 Carriers operating in the Pacific then. Later they repainted her with her number 6 again. The Japanese also reported they had sunk the Enterprise several times. Wishful thinking.
