Seems like a nice guy. I feel like he is nice to the point that it is more a situation of the crew running the company rather than him. He should let loose a little and remind these boys who signs thier paychecks. His guys have talent but they know they can get away with alot without getting verbally thrashed. Mike Pihl your too damn nice!!! Kick those guys arses in gear so they can make you some money!

It seems like Pihl rarely on-site, which is the problem in the first place. He is only on-site when he's about to lose money during the last few days. Of all the crews, Mike Pihl is on his sites the least. Keith sits in his cab and complains and complains. Keith wants everyone to work, but what does he do? I would love to represent Dewayne and son forwrongful termination and hostile workplace.

I was just saying the same thing DanCore101. Mike seems nice, but doesn't seem to have much respect from several of his crew members, cus they know they can get away with just about anything. Weird that Dustin was gone before Dwayne. Dwayne probably should have been gone weeks ago, which maybe would have prevented Dustin from developing more of a negative attitude the last few episodes. (at least it appears like his attitude has gotten worse from what we see on tv) These guys job is to move the wood and it has to be done together. I'm am failing to see why dustin, dwayne, and even levi couldn't just do their part without having to clash so much.

It's all TV hype. No One gets fired. They're all partying right now together.

Kieth Morris is a darn good logger. I have personally worked with the man on the rigging and had the honor of calling him a friend. Kieth is a hard worker and I can say that he is just probably disgusted at whinny little runny butts complaining. This show is so staged it is unbelievable. I worked on the landing and the brush for many years until a broken leg created a situation where I was able to run a shovel. Operating the shovel creates its own set of variables for danger. If a man running a piece of equipment messes up; someone may be maimed or killed. The reason for all the staging on this film, like having a new guy rig a tree, is because it is a job that is just plain gut wrenching work with a few periods of excitement. When we used to have a close call, we would not go around telling everyone. Wives and mothers do not need to worry that their charges may not come home at the end of the day. If anyone would like to expierance some of the thrill of logging, hop on the ferry for Ketchikan and work all season as a choker setter in Alaska. crews in Alaska work 6-7 days a week 9-12 hours a day. I gaurantee that at the end of the season, you will be in great shape or dead.

Hey briangrizz, Glad to hear that Keith is a good logger from someone who has worked with him. From what I have seen on the show I wouldn't have a problem working for him. IMO Dwayne has never liked the fact that Keith was in charge and it just ate at him. I couldn't figure out why Levi was yelling for Keith to get out of his 'joy-stick machine' and buck a log. I'm sure Keith has already paid his dues, which is why he's now up on the landing instead of down in the brush. Perhaps HC told these guys to not do their job and cause trouble for ratings.

I agree with the guy that wants to file the wrongful termination suit because I believe Keith was hostile to Dwayne lots. But I also agree that Dwayne is probably the Godfather of one of Pihl's kids or vice versa. I am sure there is a long history there and I hope to see both Dwayne and "DooWop" back. I love those two.

I also hope to see Dwayne and "DooWop" in season 3. Also can't wait to see Browning extra determined to be king of the mountain. Seems like it'll be forever before it gets here.

Mike Pihl snapped when Dustin did the same thing Bradley did to Craig Rygaard - accused him of not respecting his workers. That wasn't scripted, Mike is the kind of guy who will take lots of crap but watch out when something like that sends him over the edge. Dustin is a greenhorn in the workforce himself. Whether you like it or not challenging the boss is bad for your paycheck. The way that film was edited you could give Dustin an academy award for whining. Someone has a point about that situation, you generally find everyone is related in a small town like Vernona. Might be why good guy Mike puts up with so much crap. I I ain't no logger but on the subject of greenhorns- why do you need a 48" bar to cut 20" tree's? Camera or no camera, putting a saw like that in the hands of a person who has never cut wood before doesn't seem very smart.

If you are limbing (or Bumping) logs all day, I would rather have a 48 than a 28....no bending over! -- Caught in the bight when the chokers came tight! <Censored By the Forum Police> Swing Yarder.

Let me just prefacet this by saying I've never cut down a tree in my life. I'm the furthest thing from being handy around the house much less a logger. But after 14 years as a Occupational Psychologist I do know a few things about leadership, running a workplace, and workers themselves. Also, if you know MIke or disagree with my thoughts please realize this is based on the television show alone. As we all know things can be askew when it comes to all types of television. #1) We've seen Mike Pihl talk tough on many occasions. Back in Season 1 and in Season 2 we've watched Mike be the first one on the hill waiting for his workers to show up 45mins to hours late. He talks tough and backs down immediately. Firing a worker and hiring him back over and over again (even in season 1) puts forth an Ability-Weak leadership persona, not only to that worker but to all workers who witness it. #2) A subordinate manager (Mike's site boss) is only as Ability-Strong as his superior. #3) Workers realize this over time and change their psychological attitude towards their workplace and their superiors. #4) Factor in that camera crews are filming your workstaff and are focusing on specific individuals. Primarily due to how they are attuned to Mike's Ability-Weak persona. #5) Mike places himself into a no-win scenario by trying to hussle his crew even though he has come presented himself as weak and powerless in the past. Had Mike stood on top of the hill and attempted to "hussle" the crew they would have complained that he wasn't in the brush. He goes into the brush and they complain that he shouldn't be there. Mike did the right thing here be getting down the hill with the workers in the rigging he was trying to motivate. It's some of his Ability-Weak decisions in the past that lead to the problems he encountered. My suggestion Mike.. or if any of your family / friends read this.. meet with a management specialist that can help you through some of these barriers. You'll be happy you did.
