anybody watch swamp logging?

i have to admit i was disappointed in ax men this year, it is just a reality show now, edited to pieces and when they added s and s it became a joke. rygard isnt fun to watch they arent history at all. they are just drama . but on discovery they had a show on swamp logging in north carolina. i though her we go again but it was pretty much just a hard working guy making a livin with a big crew and operation but it showed just what a headache it was in the swamp. showed the breakdowns bad weather you name it. and it showed how even though he owned the operation he was working on everything. not alot of history to be honest and alot we have seen on ax men. i didnt see one chainsaw , the just used the feller buncher .but he was hitting 18-20 loads a day, now it was all flat but a muddy mess. dont know if it will make it because some may say it was boring but i enjoyed it. alot more than helo logging this year, i would check it out next monday

Alright next Monday I will check that out. Yeah I was not impresses with Season 2. Too much drama and just crap overall! Oh well, I hope that Rygaard and S & S are not on Season 3 and they bring back Stump Branch and Gustafson.

i think you might like the swamp guys,it is just the logging and the owner and his son are really the only ones talking, maybe a repair guy who stopped by but the other operators just are shown working, but in todays tv world it will take more i am sure, s and s was a disgrace to the history channel and ever hard working logger in the US.

Did you happen to see the Extreme Logging show, also. One was about logging with a mule team? Another was about a "wood chipping" operation
Liked swamp logging, too. None of the soap opera on any of them.

They have narrators, too, but less of them..

Talking about " aqua logging ", has anyone ever heard of cypress "knees"?

Check out the ON THE LANDING forum at

P.S. No history necessary on Discovery

I liked it too. Enjoyed watching the different machinery involved and the terrain.

What was universal in all these shows (NE, South and PNW) was the self-sufficiency. When things broke, they fixed it, on site. I'm sure a specialist had to brought in for some things, but it was usually the guys running the machinery that diagnosed and fixed the problem. Good for all of them.

Awesome point! I remember one day when we lost the bolts that hold the shute on the old whisper chippers. We had Just finished tying it back on, with a hand line, when my uncle looks at me and say's "I hope to god we never run out of rope and tape".
