Message Boards Announcement
Dear History members:

In February, 2010, History boards will begin the process of upgrading our community message board software. We are moving to a new community software, KickApps, that will provide greater functionality and ease of use. This transition will take place during the last part of February; the last day that the current boards will be available to you will be Feb. 28, 2010.

We realize that many of you have posted great content over the years and might want to save your posts. Please take this time to go back through the boards and save what you want to keep on your own computer. These boards will no longer be accessible after February 28, 2010.

If you would like to ask a question about the new boards, click here: http://boards.history.com/forum/Message-Boards-User/108

There will be more details to come as we roll out the new community software. Thank you for your continued patronage. We'll see you on the new, improved boards!

What's the relation between Mr. M and Mickey Rosa from the "Bringing Down the House"?

From the World Series of Blackjack, we see a very different Mickey Rosa. Quiet, asian guy. Mr. M from the show would seem more of a nervous, outspoken type of person.

Thoughts out there?

Maybe "Mickey Rosa" is a composite of several real life people, all portrayed in this show, and on the WSOB?

like many of the characters (and situations) in the book 'Bringing Down The House', Micky Rosa is a composite of several real people. 90% of the book is fiction, or 'historical' fiction... real people and events were taken apart and recombined to create the elements of 'Bringing Down The House'

SAW THE SHOW. LIKED WHAT I SAW. I WOULD LIKE TO JOIN THE TEAM. IS THE TEAM STILL AROUND? DO YOU KNOW HOW I CAN CONTACT THE TEAM?

THANKS,

There're teams out there, but they're understandably secretive about their existence. A good way to get into a team is to start your own, I think. Semyon Dukach's Blackjack Science seminars give you that opportunity. Give it a try...

Wrong, wrong, wrong!

Micky is a friend of mine and is the single person portrayed in the book. While there are aspects of the book that are exaggerated, the people are all actual people, many of whom I know, and are not composites.

If you'd like to ask Micky questions about the book, he posts on our website, AdvantagePlayer.com.

Micky still plays, and so needs to portray a different self on tv where casino personnel can see who he is. I know Micky, and I certainly wouldn't call him quiet, but part of being a card counter, especially if you are going to be on tv, is also being a very good actor.

Micky posts to our website at AdvantagePlayer.com if you have any questions you want to ask of him. He also co-hosted a chat last Sunday on his WSoB appearance with Viktor Nacht, and the chat will be in the archives later today (I know because I'm editing it for posting).

Best,
Bettie Paige

To Bettie Paige:

You seem to have lots of time on your hands...and lots of misinformation.

"Mickey Rosa" is indeed a composite of several people. Mr. M and John C in the MIT show (and later Semyon) were the MIT team leaders throughout th 80's and early 90's. I know this for a fact. Ask Ben Mezrich.

Puh-lease!

You accuse me of misinformation, and then tell me I should "ask Ben Mezrich"? That book is nothing but exaggeration and hot air, designed to sell and make a name for the author. I have no doubt that it is founded in truth, but is modified for fancy. And Semyon was never a leader of the MIT Team, except in his own head.

First off, the spelling is "MICKY" ROSA.

Altho Micky Rosa was the leader of the MIT mindset, the point in the movie, bringing down the house, was to show a perspective on his character.

I believe he is teaching these days: www.mickyrosa.com

His masters class is over 20,000 dollars tho...
